    摘要: A hydraulic damper for a suspension system comprises a fluid-filled inner cylinder mounting a reciprocating piston and piston rod. The piston divides the interior of the inner cylinder into upper and lower chambers. A reservoir tube surrounds the inner cylinder and forms a reservoir in the interior volume between the reservoir tube and the inner cylinder. A base valve assembly permits the return of fluid into the lower chamber from the reservoir. A pair of concentric tubes are mounted between the inner cylinder and the reservoir tube and provide a one-way laminar flow path for fluid exiting the upper chamber of the inner cylinder and entering the reservoir. The length and the spacing of the concentric tubes can be varied to provide a preselected damping force.

    摘要: Engine cooling fan shrouding comprising a flexible shroud mounted on a stationary component within the engine compartment and a rotating shroud carried by the blade tips of an engine mounted cooling fan. With this arrangement, there is small clearance between the rotating shroud and the flexible shroud so that most of the air drawn in by the fan is through the radiator core for effective cooling of liquids circulated therein. The flexible shroud deflects without damage on engine vibration causing the rotating shroud to contact the flexible shroud.

    摘要: The mechanism shown and described herein is a cooling fan and associated dual shroud arrangement including (1) a rotating shroud comprised of a ring secured to the outer tips of the fan blades and a bell-mouthed inlet formed on the leading edge of the ring, and (2) a stationary shroud secured at one end or edge thereof to the radiator and terminating at the outer end thereof in an annular edge in front or upstream of the bell-mouthed inlet. A predetermined clearance is defined between the stationary shroud and the bell-mouthed inlet, effective to provide a smooth recirculating airflow around the rotating shroud and back into the main airflow stream, thereby substantially eliminating tip-vortex characteristics and resultant tip-clearance noise, and without unsteady flow interactions that cause rotational noise. In one alternate embodiment, the radiator is used in lieu of the stationary shroud for cooperation with the bell-mouthed inlet.

    摘要: A hydraulic mount useful for automotive vehicle powertrain applications includes an elastomeric body, a base, a flexible diaphragm and a partition assembled to provide a pumping chamber and a reservoir. An actuator is mounted for moving a closure member between positions to allow flow of fluid between the pumping chamber and the reservoir and to restrict flow of fluid between the pumping chamber and the reservoir. The partition comprises an orifice plate assembly including a valve housing and an annular recess formed in one of two orifice plates for receiving a decoupler. The orifice plates include openings therein for communicating fluid between the decoupler and the pumping chamber and between the decoupler and the reservoir, respectively.

    摘要: A commutator has a plurality of spaced, electrically conducting segments, each of which has a physical dimension determining the relative time duration of brush contact with said segment during commutator rotation with audible brush noise being generated between the brush and said consecutive segments, the noise including a fundamental frequency component at a frequency related to the frequency at which the consecutive segments pass the brush. The physical dimension of the consecutive segments varies from each segment to the next according to a predetermined pattern effective to vary the relative time of brush contact from each segment to the next during rotation and thus reduce the amplitude of the fundamental frequency components to make the brush noise less tonal in character and thus less annoying.
