Abstract: An airbag system includes: a first left chamber that is expandable so as to cover an outer surface of a front left pillar which is located on a left side with respect to a vehicle width direction of a vehicle; a second left chamber that is expandable on the first left chamber; a first right chamber that is expandable so as to cover an outer surface of a front right pillar which is located on a right side with respect to the vehicle width direction of the vehicle; a second right chamber that is expandable on the first right chamber; a recognition portion that recognizes a risk object which is present in a vicinity of the vehicle; a prediction portion that predicts a collision between the risk object and the vehicle; and an expansion control portion that performs an expansion control of the first left chamber, the second left chamber, the first right chamber, and the second right chamber based on a prediction of the prediction portion.

Abstract: A colliding object protection apparatus inflates and deploys an airbag when the apparatus detects or predicts a collision with a pedestrian. The airbag includes a front bag to be inflated and deployed in a vehicle width direction along an upper part of a front grille of a vehicle. The internal space of the front bag is partitioned into a plurality of expansion chambers by a plurality of partitioning walls provided in parallel in the vehicle width direction. A vent mechanism of the expansion chamber is configured to be opened when an internal pressure of the expansion chamber reaches a predetermined pressure.

Abstract: A vehicle 1 as a host vehicle includes: detection unit that detects a translationally-moving two-wheeled vehicle 9 traveling in front of or alongside the host vehicle; an on-board communication device capable of communicating with a communication device mounted on the vehicle 9; an ECU that determines whether the host vehicle is at either one of blind spots BR and BL of the vehicle 9, based on a detection result of the detection unit, and that transmits a warning notification from the on-board communication device to the communication device mounted on the vehicle 9 when determining that the host vehicle is at the blind spot BR or BL. In this case, it is preferable that the ECU changes an actuation condition so that an automatic operation according to contact avoidance control is started more promptly than when the host vehicle is determined to be outside the blind spots BR, BL.
