Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for classifying notice to airmen (NOTAM) alerts to a pilot of an aircraft. First, bundled NOTAMs are received during the flight planning process for the aircraft. A domain rules set for a filter engine on board the aircraft is created that prioritizes the bundled NOTAMs based on their criticality. The domain rules set is updated with weather data and day/night visibility analysis. The prioritized critical NOTAMs are stored on board in an electronic database and retrieved during the relevant phase of the flight path of the aircraft. The NOTAM messages are then displayed to the pilot on a graphical display device on board the aircraft.

Abstract: A system for data aggregation and distribution comprises a context builder that receives a data request from a consumer, and a producers locator that communicates with producers. A producers filter receives a list of producers and selects producers capable of providing data relevant to context information. A data requests formatter receives the context information, and sends the data request to the selected producers. A data responses validator validates data responses from producers, and a data responses processor processes validated data responses. A data predictor receives processed data responses and context information, and generates data prediction information. A data fusion module receives processed data responses, context information, data prediction information, and data history. The data fusion module combines processed data responses with data prediction information to generate a consolidated data response for the consumer. The data fusion module also considers data prediction information upon receiving a request for predicted data when real-time data is unavailable.

Abstract: Methods are provided for determining time and fuel efficient airport terminal area procedures for an aircraft. First, a series of departure clusters are generated for a departure airport based on standard instrument departure (SID) procedures. The time and fuel characteristics of the departure clusters are categorized by departure time. Next, a series of destination clusters is generated for a destination airport based on approach procedures and standard terminal arrival (STAR) procedures. The time and fuel characteristics of the destination clusters are categorized by arrival time. The clusters are stored in an electronic database and during planning a flight plan of the aircraft. Once retrieved, terminal area procedures for the flight plan of the aircraft are selected based upon weighted values assigned to the time and fuel characteristics of the departure clusters for a departure airport and the destination clusters for a destination airport.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for providing procedure information associated with an aircraft procedure onboard an aircraft. An exemplary method involves obtaining a briefing sequence for the aircraft procedure and providing the procedure information via the output device, wherein the procedure information is provided in accordance with the briefing sequence. When the output device is realized as an audio output device, the procedure information is sequentially provided auditorily via the audio output device. In one or more embodiments, the procedure information is sequentially indicated on a display device onboard the aircraft in concert with the auditorily provided procedure information.

Abstract: A method for validating an operational flight path of an aircraft has been developed. First, a flight path for the aircraft is created using navigation, terrain and obstacle data retrieved from off-line databases. Next, real-time terrain and obstacle update information is captured from flight data sensors on board the aircraft while in flight. Also, light direction and range (LIDAR) data from LIDAR sensors on board the aircraft is collected. A boundary profile is calculated for the flight path based upon the real-time terrain and obstacle update information in combination with the LIDAR data. The flight path is validated using the boundary profile. The results of the validation of the flight path is generated as a report for the aircraft crew.

Abstract: The embodiments described herein can provide systems and methods for combining traditional navigational data with temporary updates. Such a system and method can facilitate the inclusion of temporary navigational events into the navigational data made available on aircraft flight management system (FMS). For example, the systems and methods can be used to combine Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control (AIRAC) navigational data that is traditionally updated on 28 day cycles, with temporary navigational data changes, such as those typically indicated in “Notices to Airmen” (NOTAM). The combined navigational dataset can then be provided to the FMS.

Abstract: Systems and methods of precision landing in adverse conditions are provided. In one embodiment, a precision landing system comprises a vehicle including: a receiver configured to receive position information for structures and a landing zone of a landing site and a processor coupled to a memory, the memory includes three-dimensional geometric structural information for a landing site. The processor configured to: receive the position information from the receiver; assign geographical coordinates to the three-dimensional geometric structural information using the position information for the structures and the landing zone of the landing site; send the three-dimensional geometric structural information and graphical rendering information to a display device. The vehicle further includes a display device, wherein the display device is configured to render and display a three-dimensional representation of the landing site in real-time based on the three-dimension geometric structural information and the graphical rendering information from the processor.
