摘要: Processing to confirm management information during starting processing of a disk device is completely executed in a short period of time without scanning a data area to thereby minimize the period of time for the starting processing. The management information confirming processing can be executed after the disk device notifies the condition to the host or the user. Therefore, the response characteristic of the disk device is improved. Authentication information to certify that management information recorded on a disk is valid and invalidating information to invalidate the authentication information are provided. When the invalidating information to invalidate the authentication information is present, it is possible to determine that the management information is invalid or is possibly invalid. When the invalidating information to invalidate the authentication information is absent, it is possible to determine that the management information is valid according to the authentication information.

摘要: The present invention provides a method of cutting a workpiece efficiently with high accuracy by utilizing tension adjusters to approximate tension in a wire in a wire saw to a predetermined target tension while effectively reducing only tension in a winder-side wire. The method comprises a forward-driven cutting step of cutting a workpiece while moving a wire forward, a first switching step of reversing a driving direction of the wire, a backward-driven cutting step of cutting the workpiece while moving the wire backward, and a second switching step of reversing a driving direction of the wire and returning to the forward-driven cutting step, the steps being repeated in this order. In both switching steps, only tension in a winder-side wire is reduced by tension manipulators. A reduction in target wire tension therefor is performed after completion of deceleration of the wire in each switching step.

摘要: A first pumping beam at a wavelength of 1210 nm emitted from a first pumping source is focused by a first lens system on an optical fiber. A second pumping beam at a wavelength of 650 nm emitted from a second pumping source passes through a coupler and a second lens system and arrives at the optical fiber to be incident thereon. Tm ions with which a core portion of the optical fiber is doped sequentially experience a ground-state level absorption transition upon absorption of the first pumping beam, an excited-state level absorption transition to an upper laser level upon absorption of the second pumping beam, and a radiative transition from the upper laser level to a ground-state level, thereby emitting light at a wavelength of 460 to 500 nm. The light at a wavelength of 460 to 500 nm emitted from the Tm ions is resonated by a resonator consisting of an incident mirror and an emitting mirror and outputted as a laser beam.

摘要: An angle modulating portion 1 converts an inputted electrical signal into a predetermined angle-modulated signal. An optical modulating portion 2 converts the angle-modulated signal outputted from the angle modulating portion 1 into an optical-modulated signal and sends the optical-modulated signal to an optical waveguide portion 3. An interference portion 6 separates the optical-modulated signal transmitted through the optical waveguide portion 3 into two optical signals having predetermined difference in propagation delay and then combines the optical signals. An optical/electrical converting portion 4 subjects the combined optical signal to homodyne detection, to acquire a demodulated signal of the original electrical signal and output the electrical signal. That is, the interference portion 6 and the optical/electrical converting portion 4 constitute a delayed detection system of an optical signal, so that the delayed detection system performs conversion processing of an optical signal into an electrical signal and angle demodulation processing simultaneously. In this way, a signal with a wide-band and a high-frequency can be acquired by demodulation without electrical part for wide-bands and high-frequencies.

摘要: The optical fiber is doped at the core thereof with Tm ions and Nd ions. When light at a wavelength in a 800-nm band for exciting the Nd ions, is incident upon the optical fiber through an incident portion thereof, the Nd ions emit light at a wavelength in the vicinity of 1,012 .mu.m. Through three excitations by absorption of light emitted from the Nd ions and/or energy transfer from the Nd ions, the Tm ions experience three excitation transitions and reach a third high energy level through first and second high energy levels. Thereafter, the Tm ions experience a radiative transition from the third high energy level, thereby to emit blue light at a wavelength of 480 nm.
