摘要: A tissue anchoring system includes a tissue anchor affixed to an end of a cable and supported for insertion on a delivery device, the manipulation of which permits placement of the anchor on a far side of the tissue. A tensioning, crimping and cutting tool designed for use along the cable's longitudinal axis, thus reducing the number of incisions required. A suture anchoring system is also described for introducing a loop of suture into a surgical site and anchoring it, for instance, across a tear in soft tissue.

摘要: An apparatus and method are provided for reducing, stabilizing, and fixating a pelvic ring fracture. The apparatus is a modular device that includes a plurality of clamps mountable to an exposed fractured pelvis with bone screws, at least one clamp on either side of the fracture. The clamps and the fracture are spanned by an elongated rod that is sufficiently pliable to be shaped to conform to the contours of the pelvis and sufficiently strong to stabilize and fixate the fracture. The method of treating the pelvic fracture includes affixing at least one clamp on each side of the fracture, cutting and shaping the rod, and securing the rod within the clamps to fixate the fracture. The modularity of the apparatus provides that the rod can be easily removed for reshaping as needed, and that the clamps can be easily removed for repositioning as needed.

摘要: A device for effecting progressive elongation of a sectioned bone having no extracutaneous elements, and a method for using the device, are presented. The device, which includes a pair of telescopically engaged cylindrical members, is inserted into the medullary space of the bone, and one cylindrical member is affixed to each section of bone. Under the normal torsions experienced by the affected limb, a clutch mechanism is provided that causes the cylindrical members to be forced apart, separating the sections of bone, at which site new bone growth is stimulated. Rotations as small as 1 degree are sufficient to activate elongation. In order to limit excessive rotational displacement, a keyring mechanism is provided that limits rotation to that which is physically tolerated yet provides sufficient lengthening, typically between 3 and 5 degrees. In order that excessive separation of the cylindrical members not occur, an indicator mechanism is further provided that prevents elongation beyond a predetermined amount per unit time. The indicator mechanism can be overcome by forcible external manipulation so that a new cycle of elongation may begin.

摘要: A canal diameter reducer is placed within the intramedullary canal alongside an intramedullary rod to stabilize the intramedullary rod and prevent toggling and/or misalignment due to shear. The canal reducer is an elongated block which may be guided into position by a guide wire and may be held in position during insertion of the rod by a suture extending through hole 31. The reducer is inserted through an entry opening formed in the end of the fractured bone. The canal reducer may be fabricated from allograft bone or xenograft bone.

摘要: The present invention provides a technique for percutaneous intramedullary fixation. A protective outer sheath is provided for internal fixation of the proximal tibia. Additionally, a unique intramedullary plate is provided that is adapted for percutaneous insertion into the intramedullary canal of a long bone. A plate holder is also provided that may be utilized through the outer sheath to drive and position a fixation plate within the intramedullary canal.
