    摘要: A miniature spring socket having a plastic housing containing the contact which comprises a pair of facing beam-like spring contacts which receive a terminal post therebetween. The plastic housing has slots behind the beam-like contacts to permit such beam-like contacts to be deflected back into such slots, and thereby accommodating terminal posts having large variations of diameters. The two beam-like contacts are secured to a ring-like base to which a third leg is also secured. Such third leg is bent over the rim of the housing and extends down the outside of the housing beyond the end thereof to form a tab which can be soldered to a conductive pad on the bottom side of the printed circuit board in which the mini-spring socket is installed.

    摘要: An elongated bus bar is coated with solder and has a first plurality of large holes, and a second plurality of smaller holes formed therein. The holes are spaced apart predetermined distances which correspond to the distances between terminal posts upon which the bus bar is to be mounted. The larger holes are sufficiently large to remain completely free of the bus bar and also of the solder when it is melted. The smaller holes lie individually in sections of the bus bar which are bent in opposite rotational directions with respect to the main plane of the bus bar, and about the longitudinal axis of the bus bar, to provide an interference force fit between each of the smaller holes and the terminal posts inserted therein. These force fits oppose each other in different terminal post insertions because of the bending of the bus bar around the smaller holes. The bus bar is then heated, as by passing an electrical current therethrough, which flows the solder in and around only those terminal posts which are inserted through the smaller holes to make a good electrical and mechanical connection between the last-mentioned terminal posts and the bus bar.

    摘要: According to one aspect of the disclosure, a planar substrate receives a plurality of conductive posts therein, which posts include an offset medial portion having a laterally projecting notch portion. Certain posts are arranged with their notch portions in coplanar relationship and in latching registration with an interior sidewall portion of a housing received over the posts. Accordingly, the housing provides an insulating receptacle shroud for the posts and is latchingly retained in place without a need for attachment to the substrate. The shroud is also provided with card guides connected thereto by integral hinge portions enabling alignment of, and reducing twisting and warping of, the card guides. The card guides are additionally coupled together with rails further reducing twisting and warping of the guides. The terminals are advantageously mounted in strip form for ease in manufacture and assembly to the substrate.According to another aspect of the disclosure, a plurality of discrete electrically conductive posts are initially connected on selected center spacings to a common carrier strip without interconnecting portions between adjacent posts. A portion of the carrier strip is severed to separate a selected number of posts, which are inserted in a substrate. The carrier strip maintains the posts in alignment and in their desired center spacings. After the posts are secured to the substrate by reflow of a solder band provided on each post, the carrier strip is removed, allowing a connector housing to be slipped over the posts. The posts will interlock with the connector housing and positively anchor it to the substrate. In another embodiment, the connector housing is placed in registration on the substrate and the selected posts are then inserted simultaneously in the connector housing and in the substrate. When the solder bands of the posts are reflowed, the posts thus become secured to the substrate and simultaneously anchor the connector housing in positive location on the substrate. As in all the embodiments, the carrier strip connected to the posts is removed after solder reflowing.The disclosure further relates to a printed circuit board having mounted thereon a plurality of electrically conducting post-type contacts, enclosed by a removable electrically insulating housing latchably secured to a selected contact, and to a multi-layer printed circuit board and a method of fabrication thereof.

    摘要: A metal clip for connecting an insulated wire and a terminal post together without stripping the wire or solder. The clip is generally channel-shaped with a first slot means extending across the bottom wall of the channel and into the side walls of the channel. Extensions of the free end of the side walls are folded within the channel back towards the bottom wall and have second slots formed therein which are aligned with the first slot means. The conductor is inserted into the first and second slots and then the terminal post is pushed into the channel at right angles to the wire and adjacent the bottom wall thereof to force the conductor farther back into the slots and causing the edges of the slots to either grip or cut through the insulation and into the wire, thereby making a good electrical and mechanical connection.
