摘要: A front-end reagent ion source for a mass spectrometer is disclosed. Reagent vapor is supplied to a reagent ionization volume located within a chamber of the mass spectrometer and maintained at a low vacuum pressure. Reagent ions are formed by interaction of the reagent vapor molecules with an electrical discharge (e.g., a glow discharge) within the ionization volume, and pass into the chamber of the mass spectrometer. At least one ion optical element located along the analyte ion path transports the reagent ions to successive chambers of the mass spectrometer. The reagent ions may be combined with the analyte ions to perform ion-ion studies such as electron transfer dissociation (ETD).

摘要: A method of providing reagent ions to a mass spectrometer comprises delivering a reagent species to a reagent ionization volume via a passageway at a flow rate. Using previously acquired information, an injection time duration is calculated for injecting reagent ions that are formed in the reagent ionization volume into a reaction region of the mass spectrometer. A determination is made as to whether the calculated injection time duration is within a specified range of injection time duration values. When it is determined that the calculated injection time duration falls outside of the specified range of injection time duration values, the flow rate at which the reagent species is delivered to the ionization volume is adjusted.

摘要: A system for preventing backflow as part of an ion source arrangement is introduced. Such a system incorporates a novel continuous flow guide within a source, such as an API ion source. In the spray direction, the cross-sectional area that defines the first portion of the internal volume initially decreases in a convergent-like manner and thereafter increases in a divergent-like manner towards the exit opening of the source housing. Such a flow guide has been designed as an integral part of an ion source housing to provide for an optimal unidirectional flow past a sampling orifice of a mass spectrometer inlet. Accordingly, the novel design of the present invention prevents recirculation and thus minimizes carryover, chemical noise, and source turbulence and as an added benefit, enables a user to easily clean such a system during maintenance.

摘要: A system for authenticating sampled objects including a database, a plurality of spectrum measuring devices, and a plurality of computers. The database stores a plurality of reference patterns measured from known reference objects. Each of the spectrum measuring devices measures a region of respective sampled objects so as to produce spectral content information identifying the sampled objects. The spectral content information includes information indicative of colors inside the visible spectrum of the human eye. The computers have access to spatial analysis software. The computer receives the spectral content information identifying the sampled object and provides the spectral content information to the spatial analysis software to generate a unique measured pattern. The spatial analysis software compares the unique measured pattern with the reference patterns stored in the database, and outputs signals indicative of matches between the unique measured pattern with the reference pattern within a tolerance level whereby the colors of the regions of the sampled objects are utilized to authenticate the sampled objects.

摘要: A device for improved transportation and focusing of ions in a low vacuum or atmospheric-pressure region of a mass spectrometer is constructed from one or more electro-dynamic or electrostatic focusing lenses that is/are coupled to the first electrode of a stacked ring ion guide (SRIG) to which oscillatory (e.g., radio-frequency) voltages are applied. Such configurations as disclosed herein, minimizes deleterious field effects and/or repositioning problems of desired ion transfer instruments that utilize such stacked ring ion guides by generally configuring the outlet end of the ion transfer device to a desired position within the electro-dynamic or electro-static focusing lens(es).
