    摘要： A method and device for recording information in units on a partly recorded writable record carrier, e.g. an optical disc. The information is recorded in a track represented by series of marks of different runlengths between a minimum runlength and a maximum runlength and synchronizing patterns of marks, which patterns do not occur in the series of marks and comprise at least one long mark of at least the maximum runlength. At least one information unit is encoded into a modulated signal comprising signal elements corresponding to said marks. The track is scanned up to a link position before a selected one of said addressable locations, and the modulated signal is recorded from the link position. The modulated signal is provided at the begin and/or at the end with a link signal element corresponding to a mark of at most the minimum runlength.

    摘要： A record carrier (1) is described comprising a servo track (4) indicating an information track (9) intended for recording information blocks represented by marks having lengths expressed in channel bits, which servo track (4) has a periodic variation of a physical parameter. The periodic variation is modulated for encoding record carrier information, such as addresses. The modulation is a bi-phase modulation in which a data bit of the record carrier information is encoded by a first predetermined number of variations of a first phase followed by the same number of variations of a second phase inverse to the first phase. A recording and/or playback device has a demodulator for retrieving data bits of the record carrier information from a first predetermined number of variations of a first phase followed by the same number of variations of a second phase inverse to the first phase.

    摘要： An optical record carrier has parallel tracks for recording user information in a pattern of optically detectable marks, the tracks being provided with control information. The tracks are grouped in pairs of neighboring tracks. The control information in both tracks of a pair is identical and the control information in tracks of different pairs is different. The identity of the control information reduces the effect of crosstalk on neighboring tracks.

    摘要： A phase-locked loop includes an input terminal (1) for receiving a binary signal, a phase comparator (3) having a first input (2) coupled to the input terminal (1), having a second input (4), and having an output (5) coupled to an input (9) of a control-signal-controlled oscillator (10) via a control-signal generator unit (7). An output (11) of the oscillator is coupled to the second input of the phase comparator. The phase comparator derives a first pulse (P.sub.1) and a second pulse (P.sub.2) in response to a signal transition from a first value to a second value in the binary signal applied to the first input and an oscillation signal applied to the second input, the first pulse having a pulse width which is a measure of the phase difference between the binary signal and the oscillation signal, and the second pulse having a pulse width proportional to 1/2.f.sub.o, where f.sub.o is the frequency of the oscillation signal. The control-signal generator unit (7) derives a control signal from the first pulse and the second pulse and applies the control signal to the oscillator, and the control-signal generator unit derives such a control signal from the first pulse and the second pulse that the phase difference is controlled substantially toward zero.
