    摘要: A longitudinal diode-laser array includes a plurality of diode-laser emitter groups. The emitter groups are mounted on corresponding electrical contacts electrically isolated from each other on a dielectric carrier. The emitter groups are cut from a conventionally formed diode-laser bar bonded to the carrier. The emitter-groups are connected together in electrical series via the electrically isolated electrical contacts. This provides that the diode-laser array can be operated at a lower current than would be required to operate the conventional diode-laser bar wherein the plurality of emitters must be connected in parallel.

    摘要: In a miniature Q-switched, pulsed laser, having a two arm folded resonator, Q-switching is effected by rapidly and reciprocally tilting a resonator mirror of the laser about an axis perpendicular to the axis of the laser resonator. The angular excursion of the tilting and the frequency of the tilting are selected cooperative with dimensions of the resonator to maximize energy and symmetry of intensity distribution in Q-switched pulses delivered by the laser. Rapid reciprocal tilting of the mirror is accomplished using a piezoelectrically-driven, MEMS scanner operated in a resonant mode.

    摘要: In laser engraving apparatus for engraving a gray-scale image on a plastic ID-card, the laser is a modulatable optically pumped semiconductor laser. Focusing optics focus a beam from the laser into a focal spot about 10 micrometers in diameter. The ID-card is mounted on a turntable which is rotated such that the focal spot sweeps over the ID card. The turntable is translated in a direction transverse to the rotation direction and the laser is modulated such that the engraved gray-scale image is formed by a matrix of parallel black lines of various length and spacing.

    摘要: An optically pumped semiconductor pumped optical parametric oscillator (OPS-pumped OPO) includes an OPS laser resonator and an OPO resonator A portion the OPS laser resonator axis and the OPO resonator axis are collinear. An optically nonlinear crystal is located in the coaxial portion of the resonators and arranged to frequency divide fundamental radiation generated in the OPS laser resonator into signal and idler radiations. In one arrangement, the OPO laser resonator is also an OPS resonator and is arranged to generate radiation at the wavelength of the signal radiation, with the idler radiation having the difference-frequency wavelength of the signal and fundamental radiations.

    摘要: A projection display including a one-dimensional light modulator includes an optical arrangement for projecting light from a laser onto the modulator in the form of a line of light. Light from the laser is divided to create in effect a two-dimensional array of mutually incoherent light sources. Light from one axis of the array is projected onto the modulator to form the length of the line of light and light from the other axis of the array is projected onto the modulator to form the width of the line of light. Division of the light is accomplished without the use of any moving component.

    摘要: A wavelength-locking arrangement for a diode-laser bar includes a cylindrical fast-axis collimating lens and a fast-axis corner reflector. An optical filter is located between the cylindrical lens and the corner reflector for defining the locked wavelength. The corner reflector provides that radiation emitted by each of the diode-lasers and collimated by the cylindrical lens is reflected back to the cylindrical lens and is focused by the cylindrical lens back into the diode-laser from which the radiation was emitted, independent of the fast-axis alignment of the diode-laser with the cylindrical lens.

    摘要: External cavity optically-pumped semiconductor lasers (OPS-lasers) including an OPS-structure having a mirror-structure surmounted by a surface-emitting, semiconductor multilayer (periodic) gain-structure are disclosed. The gain-structure in pumped by light from diode-lasers. The OPS-lasers can provide fundamental laser output-power of about two Watts (2.0 w) or greater. Inactivity frequency-converted arrangements of the OPS-lasers can provide harmonic laser output-power of about one-hundred milliwatts (100 raw) or greater, even at wavelengths in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum. These high output powers can be provided even in single axial-mode operation. Particular features of the OPS-lasers include a heat sink-assembly for cooling the OPS-structure, a folded resonator concept for providing optimum beam size at optically-nonlinear crystals used for frequency conversion, preferred selection of optically-nonlinear materials for frequency-conversion, and compound resonator designs for amplifying second harmonic-radiation for subsequent conversion to third or fourth harmonic radiation.

    摘要: A laser for delivering laser radiation at a selected one of a plurality of equally-spaced frequencies extending over a frequency range includes a laser resonator defined by two end mirrors. The resonator includes a surface-emitting semiconductor multilayer gain-structure in optical contact with one of the mirrors. A third mirror located in the laser resonator forms an etalon with that mirror. The third mirror is movable for adjusting a peak transmission frequency of the etalon to align with the selected frequency. The resonator end mirrors are spaced apart by an optical distance selected such that the frequency and frequency-spacing of possible longitudinal lasing modes of the resonator correspond with the plurality of equally-spaced frequencies. When the peak transmission frequency of the etalon is aligned with the selected frequency the laser resonator delivers radiation in a single longitudinal mode at the selected frequency.
