摘要: Catheters, systems, and methods are provided for performing medical procedures, such as tissue ablation, adjacent the ostia of anatomical vessels, such as pulmonary veins. The catheter comprises an elongated flexible catheter body, which includes a proximal shaft portion and a distal shaft portion, and a tracking element carried by the distal shaft portion. The proximal section is pre-shaped to form a curve having an apex sized to be inserted into the vessel ostium, and a distal section configured to contact the adjacent tissue when the curve apex is inserted within the vessel ostium. The method may comprise inserting the curve apex into the vessel ostium to place the distal section in contact with a first tissue site adjacent the vessel ostium, and determining a location of the tracking element(s) within a coordinate system while the distal section is in contact with the first tissue site.

摘要: A cardiac arrhythmia ablation catheter has a highly flexible tubular distal catheter section for entering and exploring the walls of any cardiac chamber which, in turn, has a distal tip equipped with an electrode system, which may have a specialized shape, for mapping and ablating tissue and a dual-wire biplanar control system for enabling and controlling the movement of the distal catheter section and tip in any direction in a manner such that the distal tip is capable of accessing any point on the wall of the chamber entered. The dual-wire biplanar control system includes a vertical deflection control wire operable to deflect the distal tip of the catheter in a controlled manner a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tubular catheter and a lateral deflection control wire operable to deflect the distal tip of the catheter in a controlled manner in a plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the tubular catheter.

摘要: An implantable iontophoretic delivery system for use in applying medicinal materials rapidly to specific subcutaneous tissue sites of interest in conjunction with an implanted defibrillator is disclosed which uses a subcutaneously situated pouch for supplying medication in conjunction with a pair of defibrillator electrodes connected to a power source. One of the electrodes is located proximately with respect to the tissue of interest and is designed to dispense the medication of interest utilizing controlled electrical pulses. The pouch is connected with the administering electrode of the electrode system via pumping mechanism.

摘要: Catheters and methods are provided for performing medical procedures, such as tissue ablation, adjacent the ostia of anatomical vessels, such as pulmonary veins. The catheter comprises an elongated flexible integrated catheter body having proximal and distal shaft portions and at least one operative element carried by the distal shaft portion. The distal shaft portion has a proximal section configured to be internally actuated (e.g., using a steering mechanism or pre-shaping the proximal section) to form a simple curve with an apex that can be inserted into the vessel ostium, an intermediate section pre-shaped to form a curve that bends opposite the simple curve, and a distal section configured to be placed into a non-radial relationship (tangential or oblique) with the vessel ostium when the apex of the simple curve is inserted into the vessel ostium. By this arrangement, the operative element is configured to be placed firmly in contact with tissue at a predefined radial location relative to the vessel ostium when the apex of the simple curve is inserted into the vessel ostium.
