    摘要: A circuit interrupter includes an adjustable trip unit for tripping the circuit breaker to the open circuit position upon overload current conditions. The trip unit includes a shorting plug adjuster comprising a pair of connecting pins electrically connected together and insertable into cooperating sockets in the trip unit housing. One of the pins is common to all adjustment positions and is of greater length, having a retaining clip at the end thereof to permit the adjuster to be partially withdrawn, pivoted about the common pin, and inserted into the desired position. The adjuster comprises a flange which covers the trip unit panel socket in all positions, thereby providing protecting against dust and other contamination. The adjuster is cheaper and more reliable than the prior art, providing increased protection against shock, vibration, and contact bounce.

    摘要: Apparatus for undervoltage control of a circuit breaker includes a holding coil, a switching transistor connected in series with the holding coil, and a rectifier providing pulsating DC voltage. A level detector responsive to the output voltage of the rectifier produces an actuating signal for the switching transistor when the rectifier output voltage rises above a predetermined value. A switching regulator is provided which is connected to the level detector and the switching transistor for modulating the actuating signal when the voltage to the rectifier input rises above a predetermined value. The switching transistor is thus rendered periodically non-conducting to regulate the average voltage appearing across the holding coil.

    摘要: A relatively simple trip or control circuit for a circuit breaker in which the time constant for an input signal related to the amount of current flowing in the lines to be protected is purposely made relatively large so that tripping is slightly delayed for approximately three-half cycles of line current for overload currents in the range of 500 to 1000% of rated current. A Zener diode resistive network is used in combination therewith for providing near instantaneous tripping in the range of overload current above 1000%. The short delay is useful for preventing circuit breaker tripping when overloads of the spurious or transient type are impressed occasionally on the electrical conductors of the circuit being protected. The delay characteristic is not purposely related to any function of the overload current but is rather arbitrarily chosen to be greater than approximately 25 milliseconds because most spurious or transient signals have a duration of less time.

    摘要: An improved discriminating circuit breaker system for use with an electrically grounded direct current power distribution system. A three-tier safeguard system is provided to insure proper operation of the breaker should a fault occur. The basic components include the electrically operated circuit breaker and a control circuit therefor. The control circuit sends a control signal to the breaker to operate it depending on whether a illegitimate load is detected on the power distribution system. This detection process utilizes: a pilot wire through which any control signal flows; an alternating current (a.c) signal generator to superimpose such a signal on the transmission line; a current detector to sense the a.c. level and produce a control signal if its current value exceeds a maximum level; a voltage detector to sense the voltage level of the a.c. signal and to produce a control signal if the value falls below a minimum level; and a switch system responsive to the control signals and in series with the pilot wire to activate the opening of the circuit breaker when the wire is open or when a control signal is produced.

    摘要: A ground fault detecting circuit interrupter is taught. A ground fault is sensed by utilizing a summing transformer interconnected with the three-phase current transformers for normal fault detection. The turns ratio between the primary winding and the secondary winding of the summing transformer is kept purposely high so that the excitation current for the current transformers is made relatively small when compared to the normal secondary current of the current transformers. This has the effect of improving the accuracy of the normal fault detecting portion of the circuit breaker. The relatively high turns ratio between the primary and second of the summing transformer usually supplies insufficient current to directly actuate the trip coil of the circuit interrupter on the occurrence of a ground fault. However, this latter current is utilized to charge a capacitive storage element after a ground fault has been sensed. When the capacitive storage element is fully charged, it is switched into a circuit disposition suitable for discharge through the trip coil of the circuit interrupter with sufficient current flow to open the separable main contacts of the circuit interrupter.
