    摘要: In one or more embodiments, the present invention provides a method for forming allyl telechelic polyisobutylene polymers having well defined molecular weights and molecular weight distributions using living cationic polymerization under ideal temperature control using a mixture of polar and nonpolar refluxing solvents. The methods according to various embodiments of the present invention provide temperature control that approaches the ideal, i.e., the heat of polymerization is instantaneously absorbed by the medium and the temperature of the system remains unchanged. The heat generated during the exothermic polymerization of isobutylene is released as an increase in the rate of reflux, rather than the temperature, since the temperature is set by the boiling point of the system and does not change.

    摘要: A system and method for determining a position of a wireless mobile device. The method comprising the steps of providing one base station in communication with the mobile device, providing a sensor spaced apart a known distance from the base station, and determining the range between the mobile device and the base station. The time of arrival of a signal transmitted from the mobile device is measured at the sensor and a set of coordinates is calculated for the mobile device relative to the sensor as a function of the known distance from the sensor to the base station, the range between the mobile device and the base station, an estimate of base station transmission timing relative to a time source, and the time of arrival. One of the set of coordinates may then be chosen to thereby determine a position of the mobile device relative to the sensor.

    摘要: The present invention is directed to syntheses of cyclolinear networks. Two novel cyclic siloxanes were used as starting materials. The cyclic siloxanes are self-condensed and co-condensed with silanol-terminated polydimethylsiloxane to vinyl-terminated cyclolinear polymers. Cyclolinear networks can be synthesized by hydrosilylation of vinyl-terminated cyclolinear polyorganosiloxanes with a copolymer of dimethylsiloxane and methylhydrosiloxane.

    摘要: The present invention provides high mechanical strength amphiphilic polymeric networks and implantable biological devices made therefrom that are capable of encasing and, thus, immunoisolating biological material from an immunological response of a host individual. The present invention also provides methods for making the amphiphilic networks and implantable biological devices. The present invention also provides a method for the treatment of type I diabetes mellitus comprising the steps of encasing a sufficient amount of islet of Langerhans cells within said biological device, wherein said biological device is capable of immunoisolating said encased islet cells upon implantation into an individual; implanting said biological device into a diabetic host individual; allowing said implanted biological device to remain implanted in said diabetic individual for a time sufficient to normalize the blood glucose level in said diabetic individual.
