摘要: Mitigation of distortion of read signals from magneto-resistive read head(s) are provided in various embodiments of the present invention. In one embodiment, the read signals provided to a read channel having an analog to digital converter and digital equalizer. Digital peak measurement apparatus is configured to sense the output of the digital equalizer, and provide average positive peak values and average negative peak values of the output. Control apparatus is configured to respond to the peak values, to iteratively determine asymmetry of the peak values and estimate the cancellation slope of the asymmetry and cancellation term relationship; from the measured asymmetry and estimated cancellation slope, to iteratively estimate the convergence cancellation term; and to feed back the convergence cancellation term to modify the digital read signals for the input of the digital equalizer to iteratively converge the asymmetry to substantially zero.

摘要: Selection of servo signals for peak detection of timing based servo tracks of magnetic tape for lateral positioning of heads relative to the magnetic tape. Servo signals from magneto-resistive servo read head(s) reading a magnetic tape are digitized by analog to digital converter(s); digital peak measurement apparatus is configured to sense the digital converter(s), and provide positive peak values and negative peak values of the digitized servo signals; and control apparatus is configured to determine the greater of the provided positive peak values or negative peak values, and select servo signals having the greater values for a servo channel. Servo apparatus is configured to respond to the selected servo signals to control the lateral positioning of the servo read head(s).

摘要: Devices and methods provide for ablation of cardiac tissue for treating cardiac arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation. Although the devices and methods are often be used to ablate epicardial tissue in the vicinity of at least one pulmonary vein, various embodiments may be used to ablate other cardiac tissues in other locations on a heart. Devices generally include at least one tissue contacting member for contacting epicardial tissue and securing the ablation device to the epicardial tissue, and at least one ablation member for ablating the tissue. Various embodiments include features, such as suction apertures, which enable the device to attach to the epicardial surface with sufficient strength to allow the tissue to be stabilized via the device. For example, some embodiments may be used to stabilize a beating heart to enable a beating heart ablation procedure. Many of the devices may be introduced into a patient via minimally invasive introducer devices and the like. Although devices and methods of the invention may be used to ablate epicardial tissue to treat atrial fibrillation, they may also be used in veterinary or research contexts, to treat various heart conditions other than atrial fibrillation and/or to ablate cardiac tissue other than the epicardium. A method is described for treating cardiac arrhythmia by: verifying at least one location of a patient's cardiac parasympathetic ganglia, advancing at least one treatment member through an incision on the patient into the vicinity of the cardiac parasympathetic ganglia and applying energy to ablate at least one the cardiac parasympathetic ganglia. A combined pacing and ablation probe is described for performing the method.

摘要: A method for determining a rotor position in a DC motor having a plurality of windings, including a rotor winding and a plurality of stator windings begins with producing a changing current flow in a pulsed winding to induce a response signal in other windings of the motor. The pulsed winding may be the rotor winding or selected ones of the stator windings. If the pulsed winding is the rotor winding, response signals induced in at lest two of the stator windings are analyzed compute the rotor position. If the pulsed winding is the stator winding, response signals induced from pulsing at least two stator windings are sensed in the rotor winding and analyzed compute the rotor position. A system for computing a rotor position may include comparators for comparing induced response signals in stator windings.

摘要: A medical system for performing a tissue ablation procedure comprises a guide sheath and an ablation catheter disposed within an internal lumen of the catheter. The guide sheath has a distal end that includes irrigation exit ports that are configured to perfuse irrigation fluid in a distal direction over the ablation electrode of the catheter when the distal end of the catheter protrudes from the guide sheath. In this manner, the ablation electrode can be advantageously cooled during the tissue ablation process, thereby maximizing the size and depth of the ablation lesion and reducing the duration of the ablation process.

摘要: A system for drying a moving sheet includes a housing, support means connected to the housing to support heater bulbs adjacent to moving sheet and a power supply connected to the bulbs. The heater bulbs are located so that at least part of the radiation from each of the bulbs travels directly to the sheet without passing through another bulb while from a plurality of bulbs part of the radiation travels in a straight line to the sheet and before reaching the sheet the radiation passes between two other bulbs without passing through another bulb.
