A method for preventing settlement of aquatic fouling organisms on surface of an aquatic structure without environmental hazard is provided. The method is based upon absolutely novel concept to prevent the settlement by means of thick slime layer, i.e. bio-jelly, deposited on said surface. The present invention also provides a bio-jelly producing agent and a bio-jelly producing paint both useful for the present method. Further, the present invention provides a novel low toxic antifouling agent.

The present invention provides a nonelution type antifouling method which comprises applying a nonelution type antifouling coating composition comprising at least two resins insoluble in seawater and incompatible with each other on top of the outermost layer of underwater portion of a marine structure and forming a coating film having a microheterogeneo us structure in which granular or disk-like minute protrusions with a mean size of 10 nm to 20 &mgr;m in diameter comprising at least one of said resins occupy 5 to 49% of the surface area of the coating film.

An antifouling coating composition which comprises at least two kinds of mutually incompatible resin compositions and which is capable of forming a microheterogenous coating film having a multiplicity of spherical or disk-like minute protrusions comprising at least one of the resin compositions,at least one of the resin compositions to yield the spherical or disk-like minute protrusions being produced from an antifouling monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith.Since the antifouling coating composition of the present invention contains a resin composition adapted to impart an antifouling effect to the coating film, it displays a long-term antifouling performance beyond the antifouling effect attributable to only said microheterogenous structure.

A scanning microscope probe in which a palladium covering film is formed on the surface of the protruding portion of a cantilever, and the base end portion of a nanotube is disposed in contact with the palladium covering film with the tip end portion of the nanotube protruding to the outside, thus allowing the tip end to be used as a probe needle end for detecting signals. A coating film is formed to cover all or part of the surface of this base end portion, and the nanotube is thus firmly fastened to the cantilever. Since the base end portion adheres tightly to the palladium covering film, both of them are electrically continuous. This palladium covering film allows, as an electrode film, the application of a voltage to the nanotube or the passage of an electric current through the nanotube, showing also good adhesion to the nanotube and cantilever.

A semicircular heating member for fixation includes the heat plate which is curved so that the metallic base plate has a convex surface, a belt type fixing device is provided with the semicircular heating member, and an electrophotographic image forming apparatus is provided with the belt type fixing device having the semicircular heating member.
