The invention relates to a fiber-reinforced ceramic body and a method for producing same. The ceramic body consists of a core and a boundary layer (93, 94) which is joined to the core and has at least one outer surface (96, 97) which can preferably be subjected to tribological stress. The core consists of one or more layers (92) of which at least one is reinforced with long fibers. The boundary layer (93, 94) is reinforced with short fibers. The fibers are preferably reaction-bonded in a matrix by melt infiltration and are made of high-temperature resistant fibers with covalent bonds on the basis of silicon, carbon, boron or nitrogen.

A method is disclosed for producing a reinforced component from a composite material (MMC). A metallic matrix material is reinforced by embedded fibers or particles, for which purpose a semi-finished product is prepared that comprises fibers and particles or both, together with a metallic matrix material. Forming is effected by thixoforming in a mold at a temperature above the solidus temperature and below the liquidus temperature of the metallic matrix material. The method allows to manufacture near-net-shaped products with excellent mechanical properties.

A melt-infiltrated, fiber-reinforced composite ceramic containing high-temperature-resistant fibers, in particular fibers based on Si/C/B/N, which are reaction-bonded to a matrix based on Si and also a process for producing such a composite ceramic are described. The silicon melt which is used for the melt infiltration contains additions of iron, chromium, titanium, molybdenum, nickel or aluminum, with particular preference being given to a silicon melt containing from about 5 to 50% by weight of iron and from about 1 to 10% by weight of chromium. This gives a simplified production process compared with conventional silicon melt infiltration and improved properties of the composite ceramic (FIG. 1).

The invention describes a device and a method for internal coating of cavities of workpieces by thermal spraying, comprising a burner for spraying a coating material, the burner being received on a positioning device for allowing positioning at least in one direction, and further comprising a rotary plate, which can be driven in rotary fashion and on which is provided a workpiece holder for a workpiece that can be positioned relative to the burner by means of a guiding device. The guiding device comprises at least one first linear guide with a first drive means for positioning the workpiece holder, and at least one second linear guide with a second drive means for positioning a balancing weight. The first and the second drive means are driven in opposite senses, which guarantees continuous balancing of the masses when the workpiece is displaced. In order to ensure continuous evacuation of overspray, the rotary plate is provided, in the area of its axis of rotation, with an opening to which an exhaust system can be connected.

An ozonizer is disclosed, having a first electrode and a second electrode between which a discharge gap is formed, a dielectric being arranged between the first electrode and the second electrode. The dielectric comprises a support element made of glass or glass ceramic, onto which a thin dielectric film on the order of up to 100 &mgr;m is applied. The use of glass or glass ceramic as the dielectric, in conjunction with an additional thin ceramic dielectric film, allows a considerable improvement in the ozone concentration in the carrier gas, simultaneously with a good ozone yield.

Described is a ozonizer with a first metal electrode and a second metal electrode with a discharge gap between them, the first electrode being covered with a dielectric. At least the first electrode is designed as an aluminium or aluminium-alloy coating on a glass substrate. The dielectric consists of a thermally sprayed ceramic film, preferably made of .alpha.-aluminium oxide, titanium oxide or hafnium oxide. Also described is a method of manufacturing the ozonizer, the method calling for the ceramic film acting as the dielectric on the first electrode to be applied by thermal spraying. The two electrodes are preferably also produced by thermal spraying. The ozonizer has a particularly high yield, is corrosion-resistant and can be manufactured simply and inexpensively.
