摘要: A tensioner for an endless transmitting member is provided to reliably prevent the loosening of an endless chain, while preventing the occurrence of an incorrect meshing of the endless chain with sprockets. A plunger holder is biased in an advancing direction by the action of a first spring supported in a housing, and a plunger, carried in the plunger holder, is biased in an advancing direction by the action of a second spring having a spring constant larger than that of the first spring. Only the movement of the plunger holder in the advancing direction is permitted by a ratchet mechanism mounted between the plunger holder and the housing. During operation of the engine, the advancing movement of the plunger holder is inhibited by the hydraulic pressure transmitted to a hydraulic pressure chamber, and the plunger is advanced and retracted in accordance with a variation in tension of the endless chain. When the engine is stopped, the ratchet mechanism is operated in accordance with the elongation of the endless chain due to wearing to advance the plunger holder one pitch at a time along with the plunger.

摘要: An engine has two balancer shafts supported on two bearing bushings which are made of the same material and mounted to a balancer holder. Lubricating oil passages for supplying oil to the bearing bushings are defined offset upwards from the centers O of the bearing bushings and by a distance .delta.. Each of the bearing bushings has two oil bores having a center angle .theta. other than 180.degree.. The two oil bores in the bearing bushing of one balancer shaft communicate with the lubricating oil passage, and one of the oil bores in the bearing bushing of another balancer shaft communicates with the lubricating oil passage, while the other oil bore of that another balancer shaft is closed to keep out of the lubricating oil passage. Thus, downstream ends of the lubricating oil passages for supplying the oil to the bearing bushings of the plurality of rotary shafts can be closed without use of a special closing member such as a blind plug.

摘要: An engine having a lower block made of an aluminum-based material and having a bearing cap mounted therein in a cast-in manner abutting against front and rear sidewalls of a cylinder block of the engine and coupled to the cylinder block by a bolt, and a pump body is coupled to a lower surface of the lower block by bolts. The pump body also serves as a balancer shaft supporting member, and a journal portion of a balancer shaft is supported on the balancer shaft supporting member. Thus, the rigidity of supporting of the balancer shaft on the balancer shaft supporting member can be enhanced without an increase in size of the balancer shaft supporting member of the engine.

According to this construction, since the rib provided so as to protrude from the cylinder block or the chain cover cooperates with the tensioner shoe or the guide shoe so as to form a separator, an oil passage having a sufficient cross-sectional area can be defined without control from the chain line and necessity of enlargement of the engine.

摘要: A secondary balancer device provided below a cylinder block of an engine including a front balancer shaft and a rear balancer shaft which are rotated in opposite directions and have longitudinally central main journal portions carried in a balancer holder, respectively. Bracing journal portions are provided on axial ends of one of the front and rear balancer shafts and supported in a pump body and a pump cover of an oil pump provided below the cylinder block, respectively. A pump shaft of the oil pump and the front balancer shaft are connected to a crankshaft by a common endless chain and rotated at different numbers of revolutions. Thus, the number of parts for supporting the balancer shafts can be reduced, while maintaining the freedom of setting the number of revolutions of the oil pump of the engine.

摘要: An oil passage structure in an engine includes a first oil passage and a second oil passage. The second oil passage has a hydraulic pressure which is different from that in the first oil passage. The first and second oil passages are provided in engine body in an arrangement where they intersect each other when viewed in projection onto a plane parallel to an axis of the first oil passage. In order to enable the space for disposition of both the oil passages to be reduced to a necessary minimum to provide a reduction in size of the engine body, a cylindrical partition member having annular seal members mounted on its outer surface at opposite ends is fitted into the first oil passage. Thus, an annular intermediate chamber is defined between the outer surface of the partition member and an inner surface of the first oil passage and is sealed at its opposite ends by the seal members. The second oil passage is provided in the engine body in an arrangement where upstream and downstream passage portion thereof communicate with each other through the intermediate chamber.

摘要: In a valve operating system for an internal combustion engine comprising a valve-operation driving force transmission means interposed between a valve operating camshaft and an engine valve carried in a body of the internal combustion engine for opening and closing operation of the engine valve, a valve operation mode changeover mechanism capable of switching the opening and closing mode of the engine valve in accordance with the operating condition of the engine, and a wrapping connector type transmission system provided between the valve operating camshaft and a crankshaft, the valve operating system further includes a tension adjusting means capable of adjusting the tension of a transmitting band of the wrapping connector type transmission system, and a control means for controlling the operation of the tension adjusting means in accordance with the operation mode of the valve operation mode changeover mechanism. It is possible to vary the preset load of the transmitting band in accordance with the operation of the valve operation mode changeover mechanism to vary the peak value of the load applied from the valve operating camshaft to the transmitting band, thereby adjusting the tension of the transmitting band in accordance with the change in operation mode of the engine valve.
