    摘要: An ionization apparatus comprises a first electrode provided on the outer periphery of a dielectric cylindrical body and a second cylindrical electrode placed inside at a center of the cylindrical body. When an AC high voltage is impressed across the first electrode and the second cylindrical electrode, a barrier discharge occurs within the cylindrical body. A distal end portion of the second cylindrical electrode projects outwardly from the distal end of the cylindrical body, a thermal equilibrium plasma P having a low electron temperature is generated outwardly from the distal end of the cylindrical body without a plasma jet ascribable to the barrier discharge emerging outwardly from the distal end of the cylindrical body. By exposing a sample S to the thermal equilibrium plasma P, particles (atoms, molecules) desorbed from the sample S undergo soft ionization without being decomposed or polymerized.

In a laser spray method of ionizing a liquid sample by irradiating, with a laser beam, the end of a capillary into which the sample has been introduced, use is made of an infrared laser as the laser beam, at least the end of the capillary is formed of a substance that does not readily absorb the laser beam used, and either the capillary is formed of a conductor and a high voltage is applied thereto, or the capillary is formed of an insulator, a conductive wire is placed inside a small cavity of the capillary and a high voltage is applied to the conductive wire.

    摘要: The presence of hydrogen peroxide vapor is detected with high sensitivity. Oxygen molecules in the air are ionized by electrons generated by a discharge plasma, thereby producing an oxygen molecule negative ion O2−. The oxygen molecule negative ion O2− produced is supplied to a space in which a hydrogen peroxide molecule H2O2 is to be detected. If a hydrogen peroxide molecule H2O2 is present, a cluster ion O2−(H2O2) of the oxygen molecule negative ion O2− and hydrogen peroxide molecule H2O2 is produced. The hydrogen peroxide molecule H2O2, therefore, can be detected by mass spectrometry. Other gas-phase negative ions such as chloride ion Cl− can be used besides the oxygen molecule negative ion O2−.

    摘要: The tip of an electrically conductive probe 11 is brought into contact with a sample and captures the sample S under atmospheric pressure, a high voltage for electrospray is applied to the probe 11 while a solvent is supplied to the tip of the probe 11 that has captured the sample, and molecules of the sample S at the probe tip are ionized. A miniscule amount of a fine solvent droplet is supplied to the probe tip and slow electrospray is implemented. As a result, the size of the electrically charged droplet can be made extremely small and components within the sample can be analyzed extensively without selectivity. Further, in imaging over an extended period of time, electrospray is possible even in the event that the sample dries.

A metastable excited species of a rare gas is produced by introducing the rare gas into an ionization space and inducing an electrical discharge, a sample gas is introduced into the ionization space and Penning ionization is produced owing to collision between the sample gas and the metastable excited species of the rare gas. A sample is introduced into at least a tip portion of a hollow insulated sample holder 11 having a small hole 11a in the tip portion. A slender metal wire 12, which has been inserted into the sample holder 11 from the rear, is projected outwardly from the sample holder 11 through the hole 11a while being brought into contact with the sample. A high voltage is applied to the slender metal wire 12 at least in a portion of a time period in which the tip of the slender metal wire 12 is being projected outwardly from the hole 11a, thereby ionizing, by electrospray, the sample adhering to the tip of the slender metal wire 12. The ions are introduced into an analyzing apparatus and are analyzed.
