A device for extracting and collecting blood from a delivered placenta comprising a compartment to contain and support a delivered placenta and umbilical cord. The compartment includes a flexible membrane which can be displaced (preferably under the influence of a fluid (preferably gas) pressure differential between the compartment side and non compartment side of the membrane) to impart onto the placenta a pressure to encourage the displacement of fluid carried by the placenta towards the umbilical cord. The compartment includes at least one outlet opening via which the umbilical cord can extend (preferably in a sealed manner) to allow the flexible membrane pressure induced flow of fluid carried by the placenta to displace from the compartment for external to the compartment collection of the fluid.

According to embodiments of the present invention, a passive counter flow free microfluidic device for sorting a sample of flagellated cells is provided. The present invention relates to a method for cell enucleation, comprising removal of the spindle body from a cell in metaphase with a minimal amount of cytoplasm from the cell, said method comprising using polarized light microscopy for visualization of the spindle body during cell enucleation. The present invention also relates to a method for production of an activated reconstructed vertebrate cell, said method comprising: a) culturing a reconstructed vertebrate cell for about 1.5 to about 3 hours after being reconstructed; b) applying at least one electrical pulse to the reconstructed cell; c) culturing the reconstructed cell for about a further 2 hours; and d) treating the reconstructed cell with a chemical activator. The methods of the invention find application in the preparation of totipotent or pluripotent cells of substantially identical genotype, as well as the cloning of vertebrates.

The method of the present invention is practiced by the administration of an agent capable of inducing, promoting, or otherwise facilitating contraction of the cavernosum. Another aspect of the present invention provides a composition comprising a cavernosum contraction-inducing, -promoting, or -facilitating agent. In one embodiment, the agents of the present invention are prostaglandins or functional derivatives, homologous, analogues, agonists, mimetics, or metabolites thereof. This invention also provides a means for diagnosing the physiological basis behind penile dysfunction.
