Abstract: A power conversion apparatus (and an air conditioner including the same) may include a rectifier to rectify a voltage of an input alternating current (AC) power source and a voltage drop device to output a dropped voltage using the voltage from the rectifier. The voltage drop device may include a transformer and a communication voltage output device provided at a secondary side of the transformer to output a direct current (DC) voltage for operation of a communication device. Accordingly, a voltage may be stably supplied to the communication device while reducing standby power.

Abstract: A power conversion apparatus includes a rectifier to rectify a voltage of an input alternating current (AC) power source and a voltage drop device to output a dropped voltage using the voltage from the rectifier, and the voltage drop device includes a transformer and a communication voltage output device provided at a secondary side of the transformer to output a first direct current (DC) voltage for operation of a communication device. The communication voltage output device includes a first resistor provided at the secondary side of the transformer to reduce an output change rate of the first DC voltage and first and second zener diodes connected between the first resistor and ground to limit an upper limit of the first DC voltage. Accordingly, it is possible to stably supply a voltage to a communication unit while reducing standby power.

Abstract: A motor driving device and an air conditioner including the same are disclosed. The motor driving device includes a rectifier to rectify input AC power, a boost converter for boosting the rectified power from the rectifier, a first capacitor to store a pulsating voltage from the boost converter, a first inverter for outputting, to a compressor motor, AC power transformed using a voltage across the first capacitor, a second capacitor to store the rectified power from the rectifier, a second inverter for outputting, to a first fan motor, AC power transformed using a voltage across the second capacitor, and a voltage dropper to drop the voltage across the second capacitor, and to output the dropped voltage. In accordance with this configuration, the compressor motor and fan motor can be driven, using the same input AC power, even though the motor driving device uses a low-capacitance capacitor.

Abstract: An outdoor fan motor driving device and an air conditioner including an outdoor fan motor driving device are provided, which may include an inverter to convert DC power into AC power according to a switching operation and to output the converted AC power to an outdoor fan motor, an output current detector to detect phase currents flowing in the outdoor fan motor, and a controller to control the inverter based on the detected phase currents. When the outdoor fan motor is rotated by external wind, in a state in which all of lower arm switching elements, among upper arm switching elements and lower arm switching elements of the inverter, are turned on before the outdoor fan motor is driven, with the result that levels of the phase currents flowing in the outdoor fan motor are between a first level and a second level, the controller may control the outdoor fan motor such that a rotational speed of the outdoor fan motor is increased while the outdoor fan motor is rotated in a first direction and then rotated in a second direction opposite to the first direction during a speed increase period of the outdoor fan motor after an alignment period during which a rotor of the outdoor fan motor is aligned when the outdoor fan motor is driven.
