摘要: An apparatus and method for forming an alignment layer with uniform orientation is provided. An alignment layer-forming apparatus includes an ion source for generating ion beams and one or more masks disposed between the ion source and a substrate. The masks each have a reflective face directed to the substrate. The ion beams are reflected between the reflective face of each mask and a thin-film which is disposed on the substrate and which is processed into an alignment layer, whereby the alignment layer is formed with the ion beam finally applied to the thin-film. The orientation of a liquid crystal can be rendered uniform by varying the shape and/or arrangement of the reflective face of the mask. Hence, a liquid crystal display with no brightness or color non-uniformity can be manufactured.

摘要: A hybrid vehicle is provided in which, since the driving force of a generator/motor (M1) disposed so as to surround the outer periphery of an input shaft (16) of a transmission (T) is transmitted to an output shaft (17) of the transmission (T) via an endless chain (78), it is possible to carry out the so-called leg shaft drive, in which transmission of the driving force between the generator/motor (M1) and the output shaft (17) is carried out without going through an engine (E) and the input shaft (16), thus reducing power consumption and enhancing energy recovery efficiency during regenerative braking. Furthermore, since a crankshaft (15) of the engine (E) and the input shaft (16) of the transmission (T) are disposed coaxially, and the generator/motor (M1) is disposed at a position sandwiched between the engine (E) and the transmission (T), it is possible to employ the same layout for the generator/motor (M1) as for a conventional sandwiched generator/motor, and the leg shaft drive system can be employed without greatly modifying the design of the transmission (T).

摘要: The invention provides an image binarizing apparatus which includes multi-value image window circuitry for retrieving multi-value image data; a first binarizing circuit for binarizing the multi-value image data in accordance with a variable threshold determined based on the multi-value image data of pixels around a desired pixel; a second binarizing circuit for binarizing the multi-value image data in accordance with a predetermined threshold; and binary image window circuitry for retrieving image data which has been binarized by the second binarizing circuit. The image binarizing apparatus further includes edge detecting circuitry for comparing and collating binary two-dimensional image data obtained by the binary image window circuitry with edge templates each having a predetermined angle; memory circuitry for storing two types of smoothly binarized data in addresses which are generated based not only on the multi-value image data obtained by the multi-value image window circuitry, but also on the edge detection data which is output from the edge detecting circuitry; and selecting circuitry for selecting either one of the two types of smooth binary image data which are output either from the first binarizing circuit or from the memory circuitry.
