    Abstract: A floor underlayment includes a fiber pad and a vapor barrier layer. The fiber pad includes reinforcement fibers and thermoplastic binder fibers binding the reinforcement fibers together. The vapor barrier layer has a bottom surface attached to the fiber pad, a top surface opposite of the bottom surface, and a matrix of holes extending through the top and bottom surfaces thereof. The holes are configured to allow moisture to flow through the holes in a downward direction from the top surface of the vapor barrier layer to the bottom surface of the vapor barrier layer while inhibiting water flow through the holes in an upward direction opposite of the downward direction.

The method includes a layered composition including a foam sheet and a melted portion, the melted portion being a surface polymer layer that provides a smooth surface. The foam sheet being a polymer that provides cushioning, the foam sheet and the melted portion being formed of the same material. The method includes placing the layered melted portion-foam composition over the subflooring. The method further includes laying the laminate wood floor over the layered melted portion-foam composition.

    Abstract: A method for producing an insulation material is described herein. The method includes mixing cellulose reinforcement fibers with thermoplastic binder fibers to form a mixture. In addition, the method includes applying heat to the mixture to melt the thermoplastic binder fibers such that the thermoplastic binder fibers bind the cellulose reinforcement fibers together to form a batt. The thermoplastic binder fibers make up about 0.5% to about 25% by weight of the batt. Furthermore, the method includes slicing the batt along a horizontal plane to form a first pad having a first thickness and a second pad having a second thickness. Each of the first and second thicknesses is greater than or equal to about 1/16 of an inch.
