摘要: Graft copolymers having cationic units pendant to the backbone chain are disclosed. These polymers are prepared by reacting a polymer containing halogenated paramethylstyrene units in the chain, e.g., a brominated copolymer of isobutylene and para-methylstyrene, with an anionically polymerized polymer made using an organolithium initiator compound having the formula R.sub.1 R.sub.2 Z R.sub.3 --Li where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are alkyl radicals, R.sub.3 is a direct link or an organic radical and Z is nitrogen or phosphorous. Reaction of the anionically polymerized polymer having an R.sub.1 R.sub.2 Z R.sub.3 --end group with the halogenated polymer leads to graft polymers coupled by a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium groups.

摘要: Disclosed is a series of star polymer products having at least three polymeric arms which radiate from a nucleus having at least two molecules of a linking compound. The polymeric arms may be copolymers of conjugated dienes and monovinyl aromatic compounds and/or homopolymers of either monomer. A novel process for the preparation of the polymer products includes the steps of forming the polymeric arms with an organometallic initiator to form polymers terminated by an active chain end and thereafter forming a nucleus with the simultaneous linking of the active chain ends thereto. The nucleus is formed from at least two molecules of a linking compound each having at least two functional groups.

摘要: The present invention provides a process for producing high elongation elastomers and highly oriented films and fibers from polymers having specific associative groups, such that the end groups on each macromolecule tend to associate with one another after the macromolecules are in a disentangled state, i.e., in the form of a semi-dilute solution. This association is of a force strong enough to prevent the macromolecular chains from slipping past one another and reentangling when the polymer is moderately heated or further concentrated in solution. The association may be manipulated, i.e., is reversible, under a change in parameter such as temperature, pH, polarity of the solvent medium and like parameters. The associated polymer macromolecules can be drawn as a gel from a semi-dilute solution into a highly aligned disentangled polymer to yield shaped articles.

摘要: Poly(ethylene-co-syndiotactic propylene) functionalized with group(s), that enable crosslinking, e.g., vinyl or anhydride group(s), in admixture with crosslinking agent and filler is subjected to crosslinking reaction to provide filled copolymer. The presence of propylene in syndiotactic sequences provides lower entanglement molecular weight compared to other propylene placement and therefore allows more filler to be present than for other propylene placement. Crosslinking provides filled materials with good elastomeric properties.
