    摘要: A method for detecting one or more target bacteria in a raw sample where: 1) bacteriophage(s) specific to each target bacterium are added to the raw sample, 2) the test sample is incubated, and 3) the test sample is tested for the presence of each phage in sufficient numbers to indicate the presence of the associated target bacteria in the raw sample. In one embodiment, each phage is initially added to the raw sample in concentrations below the detection limit of the final phage detection process. In another embodiment, the parent phages are tagged in such a way that they can be separated from the progeny phage prior to the detection process. Preferred phage detection processes are immunoassay methods utilizing antibodies that bind specifically to each phage. Antibodies can be used that bind to the protein capsid of the phage. Alternatively, the phage can by dissociated after the incubation process and the sample tested for the presence of individual capsid proteins or phage nucleic acids. The invention can be used to test target bacteria for antibiotic resistance.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for improving the successful transmission of facsimile data over a wireless communication channel is provided comprising a facsimile machine, a wireless transceiver and a connector interfacing therebetween. The facsimile machine detects an interface with the wireless transceiver and notifies the facsimile machine of a wireless communication channel through which facsimile data will traverse. The facsimile machine, in conjunction with the wireless transceiver, establishes a wireless communication channel according to an initial data transfer rate corresponding with the capability of the wireless transceiver or known communication channel conditions. The facsimile machine then exchanges facsimile data over the wireless communication channel and a receiving facsimile machine evaluates the facsimile data to detect errors injected through the wireless communication channel. When such errors are detected, the facsimile machine may institute retransmission of the previous facsimile data relying upon an anticipated improved condition of the wireless communication channel. When the conditions of this wireless communication channel have not improved, the facsimile machine renegotiates a data transfer rate more conducive with the present capability of the wireless communication channel. A facsimile machine further determines when the wireless transceiver is removed and reverts back to traditional wired communication channel data rates.

    摘要: A compact material marking system and method uses a laser to mark materials such as fabrics in environments such as stores with safety and ease of use being addressed. The system includes a housing containing the laser, gas filters, and other equipment such as fans. Material to be marked is placed into a cassette box having an opening exposing the material. The cassette is engaged with an enclosure that is coupled to the housing to allow the laser beam from the laser to enter the enclosure and to strike the material found in the engaged cassette. Fumes caused by interaction of the laser beam with the material are contained by the enclosure and drawn away to be filtered. Sensors are employed so that the laser can be activated only when the cassette is fully engaged with the enclosure.
