摘要: [PROBLEMS] To prevent ventricular fibrillation.[MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A rectangular base material (10) is sewn to the epicardium surface of a left ventricle (38). Four cooling Peltier elements (12) are provided at the center of the base material (10), and temperature-detecting thermistors (18) are provided at part of their peripheries. A plurality of circular, flat potential sensors/energizing electrodes (14) for detecting the surface potential of the heart are arranged in a lattice form on the surface of the base material (10) at almost equal intervals. The potential sensors/energizing electrodes (14) are energizing electrodes for delivering a pulse voltage/current to the heart. When a rapid ventricular rate is detected, these Peltier elements (12) are energized to cool the heart. If the cooling cannot stop the rapid ventricular rate, a pulse voltage/current is delivered via the plurality of the potential sensors/energizing electrodes (14) to eliminate the rapid ventricular rate at a low voltage to prevent ventricular fibrillation.

摘要: A co-catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas which can be used for a loner period of time as an actual catalyst by using the cerium oxide in the conventional co-catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas as a cerium-containing complex oxide for elevating the resistance to heat and suppressing the performance reduction due to thermal deterioration and by making a specific surface area and an oxygen storage capacity over specified values. A co-catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas of the present invention includes a composite oxide including (a) cerium; and (b) at least one element selected from the group consisting of zirconium, yttrium, strontium, barium and a rare-earth element supported on a particulate aluminum oxide support; a specific surface area of the co-catalyst after sintering being not less than 40 m2/g; an oxygen storage capacity at 400° C. being not less than 10 &mgr;mols/g and an oxygen storage capacity at 700° C. being not less than 100 &mgr;mols/g.

摘要: The promoter includes (A) particulate aluminum oxide and (B) a double oxide of (i) cerium and (ii) at least one member selected from the group consisting of zirconium, yttrium, strontium, barium and rare earth elements, supported on the particulate aluminum oxide. A solution of (i) a water-soluble salt of cerium and (ii) a water-soluble salt of at least one member selected from the group consisting of zirconium, yttrium, strontium, barium and rare earth elements is formed. Particulate aluminum oxide is added to the solution to form a dispersion. An aqueous solution of ammonium hydrogen carbonate is added to the dispersion to obtain particulate aluminum oxide coated with a reaction product. The particulate aluminum oxide coated with the reaction product is fired. Alternatively, an aqueous solution containing (i) the water-soluble salt of cerium and (ii) the water-soluble salt of the at least one member dissolved therein is adhered onto particulate aluminum oxide. The particulate aluminum oxide provided thereon with the aqueous solution adhered thereto is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of ammonium hydrogen carbonate to cause a reaction between these solutions and to thus deposit a reaction product on the particulate aluminum oxide. The particulate aluminum oxide with the reaction product deposit is fired.

摘要: A photocatalyst comprises, on the surface, a zinc oxide film which comprises zinc oxide fine particles formed by anodic oxidation of zinc and having a particle size of not more than 0.2 .mu.m and a method for preparing a photocatalyst comprises the step of anodically oxidizing the surface of a zinc metal substance or a substance mainly comprising zinc metal to form, on the surface, a zinc oxide film which comprises zinc oxide fine particles having a particle size of not more than 0.2 .mu.m. The photocatalyst permits quite efficient decomposition or destruction of gases or bacterial cells to be treated, can easily be adhered to faces to which the photocatalytic function is to be imparted to thus impart sterilization and/or deodorization functions thereto and can easily be fitted to various apparatuses to which a film has conventionally been applied with great difficulty. In particular, if the thickness of the metal substrate is not more than 1 mm, the photocatalyst can be processed by, for instance, cutting and/or bending so that it can be adhered to faces other than flat ones. Moreover, if the photocatalytic activity thereof is deteriorated due to, for instance, contamination, the used photocatalyst can easily be replaced with a fresh one.
