摘要: This lighting unit can control luminance in a plurality of block areas independently, and minimize luminance unevenness caused by discretely arrayed light sources, with a reduced number of parts. The lighting unit comprises: a light guide plate having a first and a second grooves formed therein; a first light source group accommodated in the first groove; and a second light source group accommodated in the second groove; the light guide plate having a first light mixing area, a first light emitting area and a second light mixing area; in the first light mixing area, the thickness of the light guide plate progressively increasing away from the first light source group; in the second light mixing area, the thickness of the light guide plate progressively increasing away from the second light source group; and in the first light emitting area, the light guide plate being flat-plate-like.

摘要: The present invention provides light emitting displays which produce a bright image by efficiently emitting light radiated from a light-emitting thin-film layer to the viewer side, and also produces a high-quality image of high contrast ratio and changing in color to a limited extent over a wide viewing angle range even in a bright atmosphere. The light emitting displays are provided with a plurality of light-emitting devices 70, each device 70 having a light-emitting thin-film layer 100 and a light reflective surface 300 in this order on the back side, and a circularly polarized light reflective layer 500 which separates incident light into two types of circularly polarized components, one being reflected and the other transmitted by the reflective layer, an optical compensation layer 800, a quarter-wave plate 700 and a polarizer 600 on the front side, wherein the optical compensation layer 800 is composed of a transparent body working as an optical indicatrix having little refractive index distribution in the in-plane direction and having a refractive index in the thickness direction different from that in the in-plane direction.

摘要: An object of the present invention is to increase the dichroic ratio of the built-in polarizing layer in reflective regions so that the display performance improves in a semi-transmission type liquid crystal display device having a transmissive display portion and a reflective display portion. The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device having first and second substrates which face each other with a liquid crystal layer in between, where a transmissive region and a reflective region are formed in each pixel on the above described first substrate, as well as: a reflective layer formed in the above described reflective region on the above described first substrate; a polarizing layer formed on the above described first substrate on the liquid crystal layer side of the above described reflective layer from chromonic liquid crystal molecules; a pixel electrode formed on the above described first substrate on the liquid crystal layer side of the above described reflective layer and electrically connected to a source electrode of a thin film transistor; and a protective layer formed in the reflective region between the above described polarizing layer and the above described pixel electrode which makes contact with the above described polarizing layer.

摘要: The backlight has an anisotropic diffusion sheet disposed between the reflective polarizing plate and the optical path converter. The anisotropic diffusion sheet includes a refractive index anisotropic diffusion sheet stretched in an absorption axis direction in which a concave-convex portion is formed on a surface of the reflective polarized plate, and an isotropic material part laminated on a surface of the concave-convex part. The isotropic material part has an isotropic reflective index. The refractive index of the isotropic material part is the same as the refractive index in the transmission axis direction perpendicular to a stretching direction of the refractive index anisotropic sheet.

摘要: An illuminating device includes: a light guide plate for outputting light, which enters the light guide plate from one side surface, from a front surface of the light guide plate; an optical sheet disposed on the front surface of the light guide plate; and a reflection sheet disposed on a rear surface of the light guide plate. The optical sheet includes prism arrays which are provided on a surface of the optical sheet opposite to the light guide plate, and each of which has at least two inclined surfaces and a ridge line extending in one direction. The light guide plate changes a polarization state of light that is reflected by the surface of the optical sheet, is transmitted through the light guide plate, is reflected by the reflection sheet, is transmitted through the light guide plate again, and then enters the optical sheet.
