    摘要: An endoscopic bioptome includes a flexible coil having a lumen with an axially displaceable wire extending therethrough. The proximal ends of coil and wire couple to a manual actuator for axially displacing one of the coil and wire relative to the other. The distal end of the coil couples to either a jaw assembly or a cylinder. The jaw assembly includes a pair of jaws each having a distal jaw cup having a proximal neck and a relatively narrow bent resilient arm. The distal end of the wire couples to the other of the cylinder or the jaw assembly. The cylinder is slidable over the jaw assembly. Axial movement of either the wire relative to the coil or vice versa moves the cylinder over the arms of the jaws and over the necks of the jaw cups, thereby forcing the jaw cups together in a biting action.

The jaw assembly includes a pair of opposed, preferably toothed jaw cups each of which is coupled by a resilient arm to a base member. The arms are bent to lie in planes which intersect the axis of the base member and to locate the jaws apart from each other. The base member is mounted inside the cylinder and axial movement of the jaw assembly and cylinder relative to each other draws the arms into the cylinder and brings the jaw cups together in a biting action. The biting action is enhanced according to the invention by arranging the cutting edge of each jaw to lie in a plane which intersects the plane in which the distal portion of the jaw arm lies. The biting action is further enhanced by providing a closing cam on the outer surface of the jaws which is engaged by the cylinder when the jaws are closed. The arrangement of the cutting edges also presents a smooth surface to the interior of an endoscope and the closing cams prevent the sleeve from sliding completely over and off of the jaws.

    摘要: An endoscopic bioptome includes a flexible coil having a lumen with an axially displaceable wire extending therethrough. The proximal ends of the coil and wire are coupled to a manual actuator for axially displacing one of the coil and wire relative to the other. The distal end of the coil is coupled to either a jaw assembly or a cylinder. The jaw assembly includes a pair of jaws each having a distal jaw cup having a proximal neck and a relatively narrow bent resilient arm. The distal end of the wire is coupled to the other of the cylinder or the jaw assembly. The cylinder is slidable over the jaw assembly. Axial movement of either the wire relative to the coil or vice versa moves the cylinder over the arms of the jaws and over the necks of the jaw cups, thereby forcing the jaw cups together in a biting action. In one embodiment, the axially displaceable wire is provided with a coaxial stopping band or sleeve which stops its movement as soon as the jaws close. In another embodiment, the cylinder is provided with an annular stopping crimp which limits relative displacement of the cylinder and the jaw assembly. In a third embodiment, the cylinder is provided with a radially inward flange and the coil is provided with a reduced diameter portion. In a fourth embodiment, the jaw cups are provided with outer surface steps. In all of the embodiments, the limitation of displacement has the effect of limiting the cutting force applied to the jaws.

The control handle includes a steering mechanism that includes an actuator, such as a control knob, drivingly connected to a drive member, such as a sprocket or drive gear. To transmit force from the drive member to the control wires, a length of transmission structure, such as bead chain, is connected to the proximal ends of the control wires and is engaged with the drive member. In one embodiment, a single-use endoscope may be provided, which includes a control handle, a steerable endoscopic device, and a umbilical cord or communications conduit for functionally connecting the control handle to a control cabinet of an endoscopic imaging system.

Certain embodiments of the invention include a single, large fluid source and pump installed upon an operator console, in combination with a small fluid reservoir and pump installed within a proximal connector of the imaging endoscope, multiple fluid sources that feed a common fluid channel that are pressurized by a common pump, multiple fluid sources that feed dedicated fluid channels that are pressurized by dedicated pumps, and a small fluid reservoir and pump installed within a handheld manual controller of the imaging endoscope. The fluid delivery endoscopic systems of the present invention provide the user with the flexibility of changing fluids either in advance of a procedure or on-the-fly as needed, instead of relying on fixed fluid sources only.
