    摘要: A bearing system and journal which may incorporate either a sleeve or a ball bearing. The system includes a bearing journal having a sleeve bearing portion and a ball bearing portion. When a sleeve bearing is used in the system, a first end of the sleeve bearing is supported in the sleeve bearing portion of the journal, and a second end of the sleeve bearing is supported by a finger spring. The sleeve bearing and finger spring are retained within the journal by an end cap, which is press-fit into the ball bearing portion of the journal. When a ball bearing is used in the system, the ball bearing may be press-fit directly into the ball bearing portion of the bearing journal, or press-fit into a spacer, which is press-fit into the ball bearing portion of the bearing journal.

    摘要: A sample holder assembly includes a sample tray, a base plate, a stage mount, and a calibration standard mounted onto the stage mount. Three mating structures on the bottom of the base plate mate with corresponding structures on a stage mount that is attached to the sample stage of the SEM. An optional contacting conductor provides electrical contact between the stage mount and the base plate so that charge generated on the sample by the electron beam can leave the sample through the sample conductive layer to the sample tray, to the base plate, to the stage mount, and through the grounded stage.

    摘要: In a preferred embodiment, the present invention is a system for avoiding voltage emergencies. The system comprises a microprocessor, an actuator for throttling the microprocessor, a voltage emergency detector and a voltage emergency predictor. The voltage emergency detector may comprise, for example, a checkpoint recovery mechanism or a sensor. The voltage emergency predictor of a preferred embodiment comprises means for tracking control flow instructions and microarchitectural events, means for storing voltage emergency signatures that cause voltage emergencies, means for comparing current control flow and microarchitectural events with stored voltage emergency signatures to predict voltage emergencies, and means for actuating said actuator to throttle said microprocessor to avoid predicted voltage emergencies.

    摘要: A hand-held portable computer has a mouse button that is surrounded in close proximity by directional buttons. Placing the directional buttons in close proximity around the mouse button makes on-screen navigation easier, since the same single finger need only be moved by a small amount to actuate one or more of these buttons. If the mouse button is actuated, a mouse cursor can be moved about a page displayed on a display screen. If the directional buttons are actuated, the page can be panned around the display screen, while the mouse cursor remains stationary. The portable computer is also provided with a plurality of hot keys, and with buttons that are located off its keyboard, such as at the back of the portable computer.
