In order to prevent a traction control system and an auxiliary steering or the like from combining stabilizing effects in a manner which causes excessive understeer, when the traction control is functioning in a predetermined manner, a signal is issued to the auxiliary steering control and reduces the gain with which the control thereof is implemented. As a result excessive understeer is avoided while maintaining suitable vehicle stability.

A driving force control apparatus for use with an automotive vehicle supported on driving wheels and driven wheels. The apparatus is arranged to provide a driving force reduction control (traction control) to reduce the driving forces applied to the driving wheels when driving slip of the driving wheels occurs. The driving force reduction control is inhibited to minimize the tendency of the vehicle to spin when lateral slip of the driven wheels occurs.

A slip control system monitors variation of engine speed for detecting transition from engine accelerating condition to decelerating condition during slip control mode operation, in which engine speed is adjusted for reducing output torque for reducing magnitude of wheel slippage. Slip control mode operation is terminated when engine transition from the acceleration state to deceleration state is detected.

A slip control system employs a plurality of slip control characteristics which may be provided as form of maps. One of the maps is selected depending upon wheel slippage in such a manner that a map having a greater engine speed variation rate with respect to variation of an accelerator position is selected while the wheel slippage is maintained smaller than a predetermined target slippage, and a map having a smaller engine speed variation rate is selected while wheel slippage is greater than the predetermined target slippage. The selected map is compared with a map previously selected at a preceding timing which is variable depending upon a lag time of engine response.

A plurality of control maps which are used to control the position of an engine throttle valve or similar device which effects the power output of the engine, are stored in memory. The wheel slip of the vehicle is monitored and if found to be in excess of an allowable limit or limits the control map currently in use is changed or downgraded to one which exhibits less rapid engine power generation characteristics. On the other hand, if the rate at which a control element such as an accelerator pedal is moved in direction which demands increased engine output is greater than zero; the amount of wheel slip is below the allowable limit or limits; and the control signal being produced by the instant control map is at its maximum permissible level for the instant position of the control element, then the currently used map is upgraded to one which permits increased and more rapid engine power development. Alternatively, it is possible to define upper and lower accelerator depression limits and use these in a manner that when the depression is below the lower limit map upgrading is inhibited while when above the limit upgrading is induced if the slip ratio remains at an acceptable level for a selected period of time.

A traction control system is associated with a vehicular brake system which can control braking force for respective individual driving wheel independently of each other on the basis of an average wheel slippage data. The average wheel slippage data is derived introducing weighing technology giving higher weight for wheel slippage on a driving wheel, on which occurring smaller wheel slippage in comparison with the other. The traction control performs control of application of braking force for respective driving wheel independently of each other so that wheel traction recovering efficiency at respective driving wheel can be optimized.

A traction control is effected by an engine torque reduction with fuelcut operation. In order to prevent deterioration of a catalytic converter during split cylinder operation, a number and an arrangement of cylinders to be disabled are determined in response to a slip rate and a parameter indicative of exhaust gas temperature, respectively.

A rear wheel steering control system is provided. This system includes a traction control system which is responsive to generation of a difference in rotational speeds between front and rear wheels to recover traction of driven wheels and a compensating system which corrects a rear wheel steering angle, determined in a preselected relation to vehicle speed and a steered angle of the front wheels, based on the difference in rotational speeds between the front and rear wheels to provide a proper rear wheel target steering angle. The system restricts operation of the compensating system during operation of a traction control system to prevent a hunting frequency thereof from affecting the operation of the compensating system.
摘要:
A system for controlling a steering angle for the rear wheels of a vehicle is provided. This system includes generally a rotational speed sensor for detecting rotational speeds of front and rear wheels to provide a difference in rotational speeds between the front and the rear wheels, an angle sensor for sensing a steered angle of a steering wheel, a steering controller for determining a rear wheel target steering angle, and an actuator for steering the rear wheels by the rear wheel target steering angle. The steering controller calculates a component of a difference in rotational speeds between the front and rear wheels caused by a difference in turning tracks therebetween and compensates for this component by the difference derived by the rotational speed sensor to provide a correction value for the rotational speeds between the front and rear wheels caused by acceleration during turning as a correction for a rear wheel steering angle. The steering controller determines the rear wheel target steering angle based on the correction.
