    摘要: A connection assembly of a computer and a port replicator for distributing a plurality of signals generated from the computer to each of a plurality of peripheral devices. The connection assembly includes a first optical connecter installed at the computer for transmitting input signals using light, a second optical connecter installed at the port replicator to correspond to the first optical connecter for transmitting input signals using light, and a portion for coupling the first and second optical connecters to communicate with each other. Thus, since the first and second light-receiving/emitting units are disposed to be separated a predetermined distance from each other and exchange information signals, the reliability with respect to connection can be maintained when the port replicator is repeatedly connected and disconnected to and from the computer. Also, EMI can be reduced by replacing the pin and pin holder with the first and second light-receiving/emitting units. Further, the replacement of the pin and pin holder with the optical connecter, which is smaller in volume and lighter, makes the entire connection assembly lightweight.

    摘要: A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) is provided which has a substrate, a first reflector layer formed on the substrate, an active layer formed on the first reflector layer, a second reflector layer formed on the active layer, and an electrode layer formed on the second reflector layer and having a cavity for emitting light from the second reflector layer. Laser light is generated in the active layer between the first and second reflective layers and is emitted through the second reflective layer at the cavity. The first and second reflective layers are each formed of semiconductor material containing impurities, such that the impurities in the first reflective layer are of an opposite type to the impurities in the second reflective layer. The electrode layer has a metal layer having a high electrical conductivity and a conductive auxiliary reflector layer formed between the metal layer and the second reflective layer. The auxiliary reflector layer has a reflectivity which is lower than the reflectivities of either of the first or second reflector layers.

    摘要: A hologram optical pick-up device using a first and second laser sources emit laser beams having different wavelengths, which are then focused by an objective lens on a disc, and reflected at a surface of the disc. The reflected laser beams are diffracted by a first hologram or a second hologram, and then received by a first photo detector or a second photo detector. Accordingly, a laser beam having an adjustable wavelength according to a thickness and a recording surface of the disc is emitted by the first laser source or the second laser source in order compensate the aberration of the laser beam due to the thickness of the disc. Thereby, the same hologram optical pick-up device can reproduce data from discs having different recording surfaces without loss of data. Also, the hologram optical pick-up can record and reproduce data on/from any disc with an increased efficiency of the laser beam.

    摘要: An optical pickup is provided which detects information contained in an optical disk. The optical disk includes a light source, a hologram device, an objective lens, a photodetector, and a single chip. The light source is formed of a first vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) diode and emits a light beam. The hologram device converts the light beam emitted from said light source into a polarized parallel light beam and diffracts a reflected parallel light beam reflected from said optical disk to produce a diffracted beam. The objective lens focuses the polarized parallel light beam on said optical disk and converts a corresponding reflected beam into the parallel reflected beam. The photodetector is formed of a second VCSEL diode and detects various characteristics of the diffracted beam. Finally, the light source and the photodetector are integrated on the chip. As a result of the configuration above, the light source emits a laser beam which has a small astigmatism and does not lose its intensity as it propagates through the optical head.

    摘要: A vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) device with an integral photodetector structure has improved intensity control characteristics. A laser optical source of the VCSEL emits light upward through a cavity formed in an upper electrode. A monitoring photodetector is formed below the laser optical source to receive light transmitted from the source downward. The intensity of the light transmitted downward from the optical source is proportional to the intensity of the light emitted upward through the cavity. Thus the detection signal provided by the photodetector sensing the downward transmitted light may be used for precise control of the driving voltage applied to the optical source. Because to the proportionality between the upward and downward emitted light, this control arrangement allows for improved control of emitted intensity of the VCSEL. An optical pickup apparatus adopting the improved VCSEL is also disclosed. For the optical pickup device, the VCSEL is enclosed in a housing having a window for allowing transmission of emitted light from the VCSEL without alteration of the direction of propagation. An optical converging means (a lens) focusses the emitted light onto an optical recording medium, which reflects the light back to the housing via the lens. When the light reflected from the recording medium passes back through the window, the optical path of the reflected light is changes so as to cause the light to impinge upon a photodetector. The window may be embodied as a hologram device.
