A cogeneration system includes a first cooling device disposed in a cooling water circulation path extending between an engine and a waste-heat heat exchanger, and a second cooling device disposed in a hot water circulation pipe extending between a hot water storage tank and a hot air heater. The first cooling device is activated to cool cooling water when the temperature of hot water stored in the hot water storage tank exceeds a first predetermined value, and the second cooling device is activated to cool the hot water when the temperature of hot air inside the hot air heater exceeds a second predetermined value.

A cogeneration system that allows an engine to be continuously operated even when there is no demand for hot feedwater. The system comprises a hot water tank for storing hot water heated from cold water by heat released by an engine that drives a generator. When the heat of the water in the hot water tank exceeds a predetermined temperature, a control is performed so that a drain valve is opened and the hot water in the tank is released.

In a cogeneration system having a generation unit comprising a generator connectable to an AC power feed line between a commercial power network and an electrical load, and an internal combustion engine for driving the generator and having a coolant circulation passage through which a coolant circulates, there are provided a first heat exchanger installed at the coolant circulation passage of the engine to exchange heat with the coolant, a blower that supplies intake air to the first heat exchanger to exchange heat and heat-exchanged hot air to a hot-air passage, a selector comprising a damper that selectively connects the hot-air passage to a room or to exterior, and a controller that controls operation of the selector based on thermal demand, i.e., to lead the hot air to the exterior when there is no thermal demand.

For minimizing declination of the operational efficiency, hydrogen gas generated in an absorption type refrigerator is eliminated by reduction without exhausting to the outside. The hydrogen gas H2 remains close to the level surface 93 of a refrigerant in a condenser 9 is transferred together with a refrigerant vapor via an extraction pipe 92 to a condenser tank 91. The condenser tank 91 is equipped with a heated metal oxide which is allowed to come into direct contact with the hydrogen gas for carrying out its reduction. Accordingly, the hydrogen gas is eliminated and a trace of water is generated. The water is then returned back via the extraction pipe 92 to the condenser 9. As a result, the elimination of the hydrogen gas is successfully carried out while the water generated stays in the system, whereby the content of water in the refrigerant can be maintained to a desired level.

An air conditioner for a vehicle has a heat pump type refrigerant circuit capable of operating at least in a heating mode. The air conditioner comprises a motor fan for supplying air heated by a heat exchanger to the interior of the vehicle during operation of the heating mode, a sensor for detecting the temperature of the air at a position downstream of the heat exchanger and a control unit for controlling the volume of the air supplied by the motor fan to a predetermined minimum volume by controlling the drive of the motor fan when the detected air temperature is lower than a predetermined temperature. Even in a condition where a sufficiently large heat radiation from the heat exchanger cannot be expected, a large volume of cold air that has been insufficiently heated can be prevented from being discharged into the interior of the vehicle. Because the motor fan is driven at a condition of minimum air volume even when the detected temperature is lower than the predetermined temperature, a rapid variation of air volume caused at the time of changing a fan-stopping condition to a fan-driving condition can be avoided and an abnormal increase in the discharge pressure of the heat pump compressor can be prevented.

An external heat exchanger of a heat pump air-conditioner on an electric vehicle is determined as being frosted based on signals from temperature sensors. If the external heat exchanger is frosted, then a frosting flag is set and the air-conditioner is operated in a cooling mode to radiate heat from the external heat exchanger for thereby defrosting the external heat exchanger while the air-conditioner is in a pre-air-conditioning mode before the driver enters the electric vehicle or while the battery on the electric vehicle is being charged. While the battery is being charged, the external heat exchanger is defrosted by the electric energy supplied from an external power supply to charge the battery.

A cogeneration apparatus for indoor installation includes: an airtight chamber provided within a housing, at least a power generator and an engine being accommodated within the airtight chamber; an intake duct connected to the airtight chamber for introducing air from outside the housing into the airtight chamber; and an exhaust duct connected to the engine for discharging exhaust gas of the engine. The air introduced through the intake duct cools the interior of the airtight chamber and is also sucked in to an air cleaner of the engine, and the exhaust gas of the engine is discharged directly to outside the airtight chamber through the exhaust duct.

In a cogeneration system having at least with a generation unit comprising a generator connectable to an AC power feed line between a commercial power network and an electrical load, an internal combustion engine for driving the generator, and a battery, the cogeneration system producing hot air/water through exchange heat generated by the engine to supply to a thermal load, it is determined whether it is a predetermined self-diagnosis time, and when the result is affirmative, the generation unit is operated by an output of the battery and self-diagnoses is made on at least one of output voltage of the battery, a speed of the engine and an output of the generator, when it is determined to be the predetermined self-diagnosis time.

The purity of a refrigerant liquid can be maintained to an appropriate level without being varied corresponding to a change in the atmospheric condition and the loading state. A portion of the refrigerant liquid in an evaporator is conveyed from the evaporator to the upper end of a rectifier where it is used as a vapor/liquid contact fluid. A temperature sensor T6 is provided at the upper end of the rectifier for detecting the temperature at the top of the rectifier or the temperature of the refrigerant vapor. The temperature and the purity of the refrigerant vapor are closely related to each other. The higher the temperature, the lower the purity is deteriorated. When the temperature T detected by the temperature sensor T6 is higher than a reference temperature level Tref, a flow control valve V5 is actuated to increase the flow of the refrigerant liquid to the rectifier. This recovers the purity of the refrigerant vapor, thus preventing declination of the purity of the refrigerant vapor in the evaporator.

An air conditioner for vehicles includes a refrigerant circuit having a compressor capable of varying its output, a heat sink and a radiator disposed in an air duct for cooling operation, heating operation and dehumidifying operation modes; sensors for detecting air temperatures at the output-side positions of the heat sink and the radiator, respectively; and a control unit for controlling the output of the compressor in response to at least one of the detected air temperatures. The heat absorbing action due to the heat sink and the heat radiating action due to the radiator are appropriately controlled in the refrigerant circuit side in the respective operation modes without unnecessary heat absorbing and heat radiating actions. Further, the temperature of the air discharged from the air duct into the interior of the vehicle can be properly controlled by adjustment of the heat absorbing ability of the heat sink and the heat radiating ability of the radiator by the control of the compressor output.
