    Abstract: A line interface filter apparatus to couple a drive or group of drives to a shared multiphase AC bus, including individual phase circuits having an inductor coupled between a respective bus and drive phase lines, a tapped resistor coupled to the respective drive phase line, and a capacitor coupled between the resistor and a common connection of the capacitors of the individual phase circuits, where the capacitance of the capacitors is 5 to 15 times a per-phase equivalent capacitance of the drive or group of drives, and the resistance of the resistors is two times a damping ratio times a square root of a ratio of the filter inductance to the filter capacitance, where the damping ratio ζ is greater than or equal to 1.0 and less than or equal to 2.0.

    Abstract: A system and method for integrating a magnetic component within a power converter includes a coil integrated on a PCB. The PCB includes multiple layers and traces on each layer to form a single coil or to form multiple coils on the magnetic component. The PCB further includes at least one opening in the PCB through which a core component may pass, such that the magnetic component is defined by the coils and the core material. To reduce eddy currents built up within the traces, the dimensions of traces on a layer are varied and the position of traces between layers of the PCB are varied. The widths and locations of individual traces are selected to reduce coupling of the trace to leakage fluxes within the magnetic component. A floating conductive layer may also be provided to still further reduce the magnitude of eddy currents induced within the coil.

    Abstract: A thermal well temperature monitoring assembly with high dielectric strength capability is disclosed consisting of a low relative dielectric constant material in a continuous structure that does not have any air voids or pockets. The low relative dielectric constant structure of the thermal well has at least one internal cavity having an end region. A thermal sensor is at least partially located within the at least one internal cavity. The thermal sensor has one or more wires extending out of the end region of the internal cavity. A first low relative dielectric constant potting material encapsulates at least a portion of the thermal sensor within the internal cavity to remove air voids that decrease dielectric strength. A second low relative dielectric constant potting material fills at least a portion of the end region of the internal cavity to provide mechanical ruggedness and environmental sealing.

    Abstract: A cable for reducing electrical noise within a distributed motor drive system includes an insulating jacket defining an outer periphery of the cable. The insulating jacket extends between a first end and a second end of the cable. At least one power conductor and a ground conductor extend between the first and second ends of the cable. A communication cable also extends between the first and second ends of the cable. The communication cable includes a second jacket having an outer surface and an inner surface, where the outer surface of the second jacket defines an outer periphery of the communication cable. At least one pair of communication conductors and a braided shield extend within the communication cable. The braided shield is positioned around the communication conductors and is electrically connected to the ground conductor at the first and second ends of the cable.
