The fluid separation and delivery apparatus for the method comprises a filter device having an inlet port for connecting to a fluid source, a first outlet port for directing filtrate to a first destination, and a second outlet port for directing decantate to a second destination; an inlet pump connected between the inlet port of the filter device and the fluid source for pumping fluid at a flow rate of Qin into the filter device; and an outlet pump connected between the second outlet port of the filter device and the second destination for pumping fluid at a flow rate of Qout out of the filter device to the second destination. The outlet pump and the inlet pump are sized and controlled so that Qout is less than Qin, and so that the resulting flow rate of filtrate Qr from the filter device through the first outlet port to the first destination is equal to Qin−Qout.

The support structure reciprocates relative to any one of the plurality of stations to insert the substrate into and withdraw the substrate from any one of the plurality of stations, and the at least one support arm is rotatable about its offset horizontal axis to rotate the substrate thereon. A loading station is located at a first position of the carousel for placing a substrate on the support arm; a cleaning station is located at a second position of the carousel, the cleaning station including a cleaning chamber for receiving the at least one support arm bearing the substrate and having decontaminating means for removing contaminants from the substrate; a coating station is located at a third position of the carousel, the coating station including a coating chamber for receiving the at least one support arm bearing the substrate and having an applicator aligned with the central horizontal axis of the support structure for applying a coating formulation radially outward onto the substrate; and a curing station is located at a fourth position of the carousel, the curing station including a curing chamber for receiving the at least one support arm bearing the substrate and having curing means for curing the coating on the substrate. A process for coating a substrate such as a photoreceptor is performed by delivering at least two fluid streams to a bell of a rotary atomizer, combining the fluid streams substantially at the bell of the rotary atomizer such that the bell atomizes and mixes the fluid streams into a substantially homogenous atomized mixture, and depositing the mixture onto the substrate in the form of a layer on the substrate. The process is useful for depositing a plurality of different substances, such as two charge generating pigments, on the surface of a substrate such as a photoreceptor. Because the substances are combined substantially at the bell of the rotary atomizer and subsequently dried or polymerized, different substances can be incorporated into a single layer on the substrate that would normally not be combinable due to interaction between the plurality of substances such as agglomeration.
