摘要:
A stacked membrane disk module has a number of membrane disks interleaved with seal rings and includes a biasing subassembly for maintaining a compressive force between the membrane disks and interleaved seal rings so that the module can be repeatedly pressurized/depressurized. The membrane disks preferably include a central first aperture and a pair of second apertures which are radially spaced from the central first aperture. These apertures will thus be respectively registered when a number of such membrane disks are stacked between a pair of end plates so as to establish a central fluid passageway and a pair of second fluid passageways. A rigid perforated tube is positioned within the central fluid aperture and is connected to the end plates so that at least one of the end plates is capable of being axially displaced relative to the perforated tube. A biasing member (e.g., a compression spring, stack of truncated conically shaped washers or the like) may thus be concentrically positioned around the perforated tube so as to exert a bias force onto one of the end plates capable of axial displacements and thereby cause a compressive force to be exerted against the membrane disks in the stack.

Membrane disk assemblies include membrane disks which have feed and residue apertures formed through and bounded entirely by a perimetrical edge region of the disk. Preferably, the feed and residue apertures are formed though a fluid-impermeable support rim positioned in the perimetrical edge region of the membrane disk which serves to sealably bond the exterior membrane sheets and at least one interposed permeate carrier sheet one to another. Most preferably, the support rim includes inwardly directed lobes through which the feed and residue apertures are formed. The membrane disks will also include a central permeate aperture in fluid communication with the carrier sheet interposed between the pair of membrane sheets. When a number of such membrane disks are assembled in stacked relationship with the feed, residue and central permeate apertures registered, there will be formed respective feed, residue and permeate passageways through the stack. In order to create the desired flow of fluid through the stack of membrane disks and across the active surfaces of the membrane sheets, annular high and low pressure seals are interposed concentrically between adjacent membrane disks in the stack. In addition to providing necessary sealing functions, the high and low pressure seals define a slight, but significant, clearance space between immediately adjacent membrane sheets of membrane disks in the stack to allow for fluid flow between the feed and residue apertures.

An IC card includes at least one plastic layer, a battery and at least one electronic device embedded in the plastic layer. The battery is electrically connected to the electronic device for providing power to the device. The battery includes an anode, a cathode, and at least one polymer matrix electrolyte (PME) separator disposed between the anode and the cathode. The PME separator includes a polyimide, at least one lithium salt and at least one solvent all intermixed. The PME is substantially optically clear and stable against high temperature and pressure, such as processing conditions typically used in hot lamination processing or injection molding.

The instant application relates to an X-ray sensitive battery separator for a secondary lithium battery and a method for detecting the position of a separator in a secondary lithium battery. The X-ray sensitive battery separator includes a microporous membrane having an X-ray detectable element therein, thereon, or added thereto. The X-ray detectable element constitutes less than 20% by weight of the microporous membrane or separator. The method for detecting the position of a separator in a battery, cell, stack, jellyroll, can, or the like includes the following steps: (1) providing a battery, cell, stack, jellyroll, or the like including an X-ray sensitive battery separator; (2) subjecting the battery, cell, stack, jellyroll, or the like to X-ray radiation; and (3) thereby detecting the position of said separator in said battery, cell, stack, jellyroll, or the like.

A polymer matrix electrolyte (PME) includes a polyimide, at least one salt and at least one solvent intermixed. The PME is generally homogeneous as evidenced by its high level of optically clarity. The PME is stable through harsh temperature and pressure conditions. A method of forming a PME includes the steps of dissolving a polyimide in at least one solvent, adding at least one salt to the polyimide and the solvent, wherein said polyimide, salt and solvent become intermixed to form the PME, the PME being substantially optically clear.

A battery separator for a lithium battery is disclosed. The separator has a microporous membrane and a coating thereon. The coating is made from a mixture of a gel forming polymer, a first solvent, and a second solvent. The first solvent is more volatile than the second solvent. The second solvent acts as a pore former for the gel-forming polymer.
