摘要: Some example forms relate to a method of nondestructively measuring a geometry of an electrical component on a substrate. The method includes directing light at the electrical component. The light is at an original intensity. The method further includes measuring light that is reflected off of the electrical component. The reflected light includes undiffracted light and diffracted light. The diffracted light is at a diffracted intensity. The method further includes determining a ratio of diffracted intensity to original intensity and utilizing the ratio to determine a geometry of the electrical component.

摘要: The present invention is directed to a procedure and a special balloon used in balloon angioplasty and stent installation in percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA), which employs a heart catheter with a balloon at its distal end. After being inflated, the balloon is in doughnut shape with a hole in the center; its length is made to fit the length of the stent to be inflated. During an angioplasty procedure, the balloon is pushed forward into the stenosis and inflated with a device to dilate the blockage. The doughnut_shaped balloon provides a pass way for blood to flow through the coronary artery vessel, which does not cause angina akin to a heart attack resulted from traditional tube_shaped balloons used in the PTCA procedure that completely block blood flow after being fully inflated during balloon angioplasty and stent installation.

摘要: A method and apparatus for processing and encoding video data is presented that allocates available bandwidth, and hence image quality, in dependence upon the relative speed of motion of objects in a sequence of images forming the video data. Fast moving objects are allocated less quality, or precision, than slower moving or stationary objects. In a preferred embodiment of this invention, the quantization step size is dependent upon the magnitude of the motion vector associated with each block in each frame of a video sequence. In a further embodiment of this invention, the quantization step size is also dependent upon the location of each block in each frame, providing more precision to a central area of each frame. To reduce computational complexity, a motion activity map is created to identify areas of higher precision based upon the location and motion associated with each block. To further reduce computational complexity in a preferred embodiment, the sets of parameters for effecting the desired quality levels are predefined, and include, for example, an initial value and bounds for the quantizing factor that is used for encoding independent and predictive frames of the sequence of images. In a further preferred embodiment, the sets of parameters for effecting the desired quality levels are adjustable based upon a user's preferences.

摘要: The provision of an ionic self-assembled multilayer (ISAM) film on a fiber-optic element including a long period grating (LPG) by a simple, room temperature process provides tuning of the LPG and/or high sensitivity to the refractive index of the ambient environment of the fiber-optic element. Inclusion of a final layer or a probe, receptor or affinity ligand in the multi-layer film provides a highly sensitive sensor for specific chemical and biological materials. Use of a turn around point (TAP) LPG allows detection to be performed by detection of light intensity rather than wavelength of attenuation. Use of a material having an electro-optical response to an electrical field by change of dimension or refractive index allows the combination of a LPG or TAP LPG and ISAM film to function as a light modulator.
