Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and compositions of blended polycarbonate compositions with simultaneously decreased splay and improved impact characteristics. The resulting compositions, comprising one or more polycarbonate polymers, a splay reducer, and a filler, can be used in the manufacture of articles while still retaining the advantageous physical properties of blended polycarbonate compositions with decreased splay. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.

Abstract: A polycarbonate composition comprises: a first poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer, comprising a polysiloxane block with an average block length of 10 to 100, and a siloxane content from 5 wt % to 10 wt %; and a second poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer comprising a polysiloxane block with an average block length of 10 to 100, and a siloxane content from 30 wt % to 60 wt %; wherein the weight ratio of the first poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer to the second poly(carbonate-siloxane) copolymer is greater than or equal to 2 to less than 8; and a bisphenol A homopolycarbonate, wherein the polycarbonate composition has a total siloxane content of 2.5 wt % to 10 wt % based on the total weight of the composition; and a molded part of 1 mm thickness has a haze of less than 10% as measured by HazeGard (ASTM D1003-00).

Abstract: The disclosure concerns methods for molding a polycarbonate containing plastic, the method including: (a) injecting a composition into a mold, the composition including (i) about 49 wt % to about 97.9 wt % of polycarbonate, (ii) about 2.0 wt % to about 50 wt % of a polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, and (iii) about 0 wt % to about 1.0 wt % of at least one release agent; and (b) releasing the composition from the mold. The mold includes at least one draft angle of about 0.1 degrees to about 7 degrees. The polycarbonate blend includes a melt flow volume rate (MVR) of at least about 25 cm3/10 min as measured according to ISO 1133 at 300° C. and 1.2 kg.

Abstract: Automotive articles include a polycarbonate-siloxane copolymer including: from about 49.5 wt % to about 97.95 wt % of at least one polycarbonate polymer; from about 2.0 wt % to about 49.5 wt % of at least one polycarbonate-siloxane copolymer; and from about 0.05 wt % to about 1.0 wt % of at least one release agent. The composition exhibits a melt volume flow rate of at least about 25 cm3/10 min, a ductile/brittle transition temperature of less than or equal to 10° C., and high gloss after metallization. Methods of forming an article include: forming a thermoplastic composition, and injection molding, extruding, rotational molding, blow molding or thermoforming the thermoplastic composition in a mold to form the article. Such compositions and methods may be used to form articles including, but not limited to, automotive bezels and reflectors.

Abstract: A thermoplastic composition comprises, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition, 10 to 45 wt. % of a poly(etherimide); 35 to 90 wt. % of a poly(carbonate-siloxane); 0.5 to 20 wt. % of compatibilizer polycarbonate component comprising a poly(carbonate-arylate ester); up to 15 wt. % of an ultraviolet light stabilizer; and 0 to 30 wt. % of TiO2; wherein a sample of the composition has a notched Izod impact energy of at least 200 J/m at 23° C. measured in accordance to ASTM D256; and an at least 50% higher notched Izod impact energy value compared to the composition without the compatibilizer component measured in accordance to ASTM D256.

Abstract: A thermoplastic composition comprising: a copolycarbonate comprising bisphenol A (BPA) carbonate units and 10-50 mol % of second carbonate units different from the BPA carbonate units; a poly(carbonate-arylate ester) copolymer comprising BPA carbonate units and 5-50 mol % of monoaryl arylate ester units; and optionally a BPA homopolycarbonate; wherein the thermoplastic composition has at least one of: a Vicat B120 softening temperature of 155° C. or greater; or a yellowness index of less than 10 on a plaque having a thickness of 3 mm and molded at a temperature of 360° C. for 5 minutes; or an increase in yellowness index of less than 5 after 600 hours of weathering per ISO 11341 on a molded plaque having a thickness of 1 mm.

Abstract: A lens containing a polycarbonate composition is disclosed. The polycarbonate composition includes a copolycarbonate having bisphenol A carbonate units and second carbonate units of the formula and 2 to 40 ppm of an organosulfonic stabilizer of the formula wherein the second carbonate units are present in an amount of 20 to 49 mol %, preferably 30 to 40 mol % based on the sum of the moles of the copolycarbonate and the bisphenol A homopolycarbonate. The polycarbonate composition has: a Vicat B120 of 160° C. or higher measured according to ISO 306; and a yellowness index of less than 12, measured according to ASTM D1925.
