Abstract:
There are provided novel triene hydrocarbons, having at least two conjugated double bonds, and being of the general formula IN WHICH A is a radical consisting of a ring containing an endomethylene group; B may be both a linear alkadiene radical and a substituted and unsubstituted alkene or cycloalkene radical; Ro may be hydrogen, an aryl or an alkyl radical, n is a number ranging from 0 to 3; and m is 0 or 1. If n is not 0, m is 0; if n is 0, m is 0 or 1.
Abstract:
Triene hydrocarbons containing two conjugated double bonds, represented by the formula: WHEREIN R1, R2, R3, R4, R and R'' may be hydrogen, alkyl or aryl radicals, and which may be prepared through a Diels-Alder reaction between a cyclopentadiene and (a) a dihalide-alkenyl compound, followed by dehydrohalogenation with basic agents, or (b) esters of fumaric or maleic acid, followed by reaction with a Grignard''s reagent and then by dehydration of the alcohol, are disclosed.
Abstract:
Vulcanizable olefin tetrapolymers are described which are comprised of ethylene, an alpha-olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms, at least one conventional terpolymer such as exodicyclopentadiene, and a minor amount of a polycyclic polyene containing an endomethylene system ortho-condensed with another hydrocarbon ring, and wherein the two carbon atoms common to two rings belong to a conjugated diene system whose double bonds are in the ring other than the endomethylene ring.
Abstract:
A CURABLE AMORPHOUS OLEFINIC TERPOLYMER OF TWO DIFFERENT ALPHA-OLEFINS HAVING UP TO 10 CARBON ATOMS AND A POLYCYCLIC POLYENE, SUCH AS 4,7 ENDOMETHYLENE-4,7-DIHYDROINDENE, WHICH CONTAINS AN ENDOMETHYLENE GROUP ORTHO-CONDENSED WITH A HYDROCARBON RING, THE TWO CARBON ATOMS COMMON TO TWO RINGS BEING PART OF A CONJUGATED DIENE SYSTEM THE DOUBLE BONDS OF WHICH ARE IN THE RING OTHER THAN THAT CONTAINING THE ENDOMETHYLENE GROUP, IS DISCLOSED.
Abstract:
A method is described whereby olefin terpolymers, consisting of ethylene, an alpha olefin and a polyene having in the molecule, in addition to the double bond participating in the formation of the macromolecule, at least one conjugated double bond system, are stabilied against oxidative aging without destroying their characteristic high vulcanization rate by reacting them with a dienophilic agent represented by one of the following formulae:
WHEREIN R and R6 may be an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical having up to 8 carbon atoms, R1, R2, R3, R4 and R5 may be hydrogen or alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radicals having up to 8 carbon atoms, the R1-R2 and R-R pairs may be divalent radicals forming condensed rings.
Abstract:
Terpolymers are disclosed which are subject to crosslinking in the absence of any vulcanizing agent or accelerator and which are obtained from Alpha -olefine monomers and a terpolymer having side chains consisting of a GROUP WHICH IS DIRECTLY LINKED TO TWO CARBON ATOMS, EACH OF WHICH HAS AN ETHYLENIC BOND, E.G.: WHEREIN R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and hydrocarbon radicals which contain from one to five carbon atoms and which may include pairs of radicals that may be cyclized to form one or more rings having from four to seven carbon atoms.
