A process for preparing hydroperoxides which comprises oxidizing hydrocarbon by a gas containing oxygen in the presence of a specific compound and converting them selectively to corresponding hydroperoxides. The specific compound is the compound that can capture radicals. The preferable example may be a compound selected from radicals of oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, carbon or silicon or a compound that forms radicals of these in the reaction system. The present invention can be applied to oxidation of hydrocarbons including arylalkylhydrocarbons such as cumene, m-diisopropylbenzene, p-diisopropylbenzene, 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene, isopropylnaphthalene, diisopropylnaphthalene, isopropylbiphenyl, diisopropylbiphenyl, etc.

The invention provides a process using olefin polymerization catalysts exhibiting excellent polymerization activities. The olefin polymerization catalysts of the invention contain a transition metal compound of and at least one of an organometallic compound, an organoaluminum oxy-compound or a compound which reacts with said transition metal compound to form an ion pair. The process using the inventive catalysts is useful in producing α-olefin/conjugated diene copolymers having specific properties.

An α-olefin/non-conjugated cyclic polyene copolymer (A) includes structural units (I) derived from an α-olefin and structural units (H) derived from a vinyl group-containing cyclic olefin. The copolymer has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of not more than 2.7 and is amorphous or low crystalline with a crystalline heat of fusion (ΔH) of less than 90 kJ/kg. The copolymer is efficiently produced using a specific transition metal catalyst that has a ligand with a phenoxyimine skeleton. The copolymer of the invention has a narrower molecular weight distribution and a higher content of vinyl groups as compared with existing copolymers. The copolymer can then give crosslinked products having excellent tensile properties. The copolymer is also used as a plasticizer for polymers such as rubbers, and provides excellent processability and superior mechanical strength and rubber elasticity of crosslinked products. By converting the vinyl groups in the copolymer to polar groups, various functional polyolefin materials are obtained.
