Abstract: A method that includes receiving, from one or more motion sensors in a device, data describing a signature arc in three-dimensional space, the signature arc having been generated by gesturing using the device; identifying, from the data describing the gestured signature arc, a plurality of points that correspond to the gestured signature arc in three-dimensional space; generating a curve along the identified plurality of points corresponding to the gestured signature arc; generating a two-dimensional representation of the gestured signature arc; and displaying, on a display screen, the generated two-dimensional representation of the gestured signature arc.

Abstract: Techniques for generating schedule(s) specific to a merchant for managing power states of component(s) of a point-of-sale (POS) system of the merchant are described. Transaction data associated with transactions involving the merchant may be received from a POS application of the POS system. Based at least partly on the transaction data, a schedule for managing the power states of a component, such as a battery-operated payment reader device, may be determined. The schedule may indicate when to change a first power state of the component to a second power state. The schedule may be sent to a POS system. The POS system may use the schedule to manage the power states of a component of the POS system, such as a battery-operated reader device. Additionally, or alternatively, the POS system may determine triggering events and may manage the power states of the component based on the triggering events.

Abstract: Read head array stitching techniques are described. A card reader includes an array of magnetic sensors (a read head array) for retrieving account information from a magnetic stripe of a financial transaction card. The magnetic sensors can be arranged in rows and columns. During a card swipe, each magnetic sensor receives a series of readings. A processor determines relative bit rates for each series of readings. The processor determines which sensor corresponds to which track of the magnetic stripe based on a comparison of the relative bit rates. The processor generates a data stream for at least one track based on portions of readings from each sensor during periods of time the sensor is determined to correspond to the track.

Abstract: A technique for providing a pay-by-name payment experience is disclosed. A point-of-sale (POS) system at a store receives information identifying an account with a central server from a payment card using a short-range wireless technology. In response to that, it obtains information regarding the account, including a person's name associated with the account, using the received information. It also accepts a name from a specific consumer in the vicinity. At this point, it determines whether the name accepted from the specific consumer and the name associated with the account are identical. If it determines that the two names are identical, it checks-in the consumer to the store.
