The present invention also provides for antisense molecules to the nucleotide sequences which encode ICEY, expression vectors for the production of purified ICEY, antibodies capable of binding specifically to ICEY, hybridization probes or oligonucleotides for the detection of ICEY-encoding nucleotide sequences, genetically engineered host cells for the expression of ICEY, diagnostic tests for activation of monocyte/macrophages based on ICEY-encoding nucleic acid molecules, and use of the protein to produce antibodies capable of binding specifically to the protein and use of the protein to screen for inhibitors.

The invention further provides genetically engineered expression vectors and host cells for the production of purified NCP peptide, antibodies capable of binding to NCP, inhibitors which bind to NCP and pharmaceutical compositions based on NCP specific antibodies or inhibitors. The invention specifically provides for diagnostic assays based on altered ncp expression and which allow identification of such a condition.
