    摘要: The present invention provides a coating composition containing 1) a carbamate-functional resin having in its structure a hyperbranched or star polyol core, a first chain extension based on a polycarboxylic acid or anbydride, a second chain extension based on an epoxy containing compound, and having carbamate functional groups on the core, the second chain extension, or both; and 2) a second resin containing functional groups reactive with the carbamate groups on the carbamate-functional resin. In one embodiment, the coating compositions are used as a cloarcoat to be applied over a basecoat to form a composite coating. The compositions exhibit a combination of desirable properties, such as scratch and mar resistance, resistance to environmental etch, good intercoat adhesion, and high solids.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method for making nongelled addition polymers, especially carbamate functional additional polymers from linear unsaturated anhydrides. The method comprises reacting an unsaturated linear anhydride with an active hydrogen compound to provide two monomers comprising polymerizable C═C bonds, at least one of said monomers comprising an acid functional group; polymerizing the polymerizable C═C bonds of the two monomers to provide an acid functional polymerization product; and reacting the acid functional polymerization product with an epoxy functional compound to provide a nongelled addition polymer, wherein the disclosed method does not include a step comprising the physical removal of any acid functional monomers or polymerization products. Also disclosed is a curable coating composition containing the resulting carbamate functional polymer, as well as a coated substrate comprising a cured film resulting from the application and curing of the disclosed curable coating composition.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method for making nongelled functional addition polymers from linear unsaturated anhydrides. The method subjects a linear unsaturated anhydride compound, an active hydrogen compound, and an epoxide compound to reaction conditions such that each of the following three reactions occur: (i) polymerization of polymerizable C═C bonds, (ii) ring opening of an anhydride functional group of the linear unsaturated anhydride compound by the active hydrogen compound to create an acid functional group, and (iii) reaction of the acid functional group resulting from the anhydride ring opening with the epoxide compound. At the time of reaction (iii), the acid functional group resulting from the anhydride ring opening may be selected from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, a polymer, or both. In one embodiment, the method does not include the physical removal of any acid functional monomers or polymerization products. Also disclosed are a curable coating composition and a coated substrate.

    摘要: An acrylic composition includes the reaction product of an acrylic polymer, a carbamate having anhydride-reactive functionality and carbamate functionality, and a carboxylic acid anhydride that is reactive with the carbamate to form a carboxylic acid carbamate. The acrylic polymer includes the reaction product of a functionalized monomer, a first compound reactive with the functionalized monomer to form a functionalized intermediate, and a highly branched, polyfunctional core molecule reactive with the functionalized intermediate. The first compound includes vinyl functionality reactive with the functionalized monomer and epoxy functionality. The carboxylic acid carbamate has the carbamate functionality and carboxylic acid functionality that is reactive with the acrylic polymer. The acrylic composition is highly-branched and, when used in coating compositions in combination with a suitable cross-linking agent, enhances recoat adhesion and produces cured films that have optimum scratch, mar, and chip performance, and acid etch resistance.
