摘要: An optical pickup for reading information recorded on a recording surface of an optical information storage medium such as a compact disc or a laser video disc has a light beam source for emitting a linear light beam, and an optical system including an objective lens for converging the linear light beam as a linear image on the recording surface and collecting and emitting a light beam reflected from the recording surface. A focus control device includes a parallel flat glass plate for refracting the reflected light beam from the optical system, a photodetector having a plurality of photosensitive surfaces for photoelectrically converting the light beam applied thereto from the parallel flat glass plate into a plurality of respective detected signals, an error signal generator for processing the detected signals from the photodetector into a focus error signal indicative of whether the linear image is focused on the recording surface at the focal point of the objective lens, and an actuator responsive to the focus error signal for controlling the objective lens positionally with respect to the optical information storage medium to focus the linear image on the recording surface.

摘要: An optical information recording medium, to and from which information can be recorded or reproduced at a high density, uses more number of kinds of pits than those of a conventional optical disc. A reproducing apparatus for such a medium also is devised. Information is recorded onto the recording medium by using a plurality of pit lengths which are obtained by dividing a whole frequency band below a cut-off frequency of MTF characteristic of a reproducing system into a plurality of bands in correspondence to the band characteristic and by allocating a plurality of spatial frequencies to the divided bands. The reproducing apparatus of the invention comprises an optical pickup to read out the recording information from the optical recording medium and signal demodulating means for demodulating the original data from the pulse width and amplitude value of the reproduction signal which is supplied from the optical pickup, wherein the optical pickup is designed to have an MTF characteristic such as to have one or a plurality of peaks at certain frequency positions.

摘要: An optical pickup has a light source for generating a first light having a longer wavelength and a second light having a shorter wavelength, an objective, and a phase hologram disposed between the light source and the objective. The objective is designed to have a larger spherical aberration for the first light than a spherical aberration for the second light. The phase hologram is arranged to give a phase difference of an integer multiple of 2.pi. for the second light. The phase hologram is further arranged so that a spherical aberration given to the first light has an opposite polarity to the polarity of the spherical aberration given by the objective.

摘要: A first thermal buffer layer and a second thermal buffer layer are arranged between a recording medium and an actuator structure. The heat conductivity of the first thermal buffer layer is set low and the heat conductivity of the second thermal buffer layer is set high. Most of the heat generated from a coil wiring of the actuator structure is blocked by the first thermal buffer layer, and heat leaked from the first thermal buffer layer is diffused by the second thermal buffer layer. Temperature distribution on the recording medium is made uniform, and thus, a configuration wherein the recording medium and the actuator structure are placed one over another can be provided, information reading accuracy or information recording stability can be improved and the sizes of an information storage device can be reduced.
