摘要: In a plasma display panel having a discharge gas sealed in a gap between a front side substrate and a rear side substrate opposed to each other and having ribs partitioning a gas-sealed space into a discharge cell array arranged above an inner surface of one of the substrates, the rib includes an upper-layer rib and a lower-layer rib, and the upper-layer rib and the lower-layer rib are made of rib materials different from each other in resistance to etching, thereby allowing for formation of high ribs to enlarge the discharge space without affecting the upper-layer ribs when forming the lower-layer ribs.

摘要: A plasma display panel includes a magnesium oxide film (18) that covers electrodes (X, Y) and is exposed to a discharge gas space (31). The magnesium oxide film (18) includes silicon and calcium as impurities, and the content of the impurities in the magnesium oxide film (18) is 800 to 2050 ppm by weight. By suppressing the total content of silicon and calcium in the film to 800 to 2050 ppm by weight, the discharge start voltage can be reduced by no less than 20 volts.

摘要: A plasma display panel includes: a front substrate having a sustain electrode and a scan electrode for causing surface discharge, and a first dielectric layer which covers the sustain electrode and the scan electrode; a rear substrate having an address electrode extending across the sustain electrode and the scan electrode, and a second dielectric layer which covers the address electrode; a partition wall disposed in a discharge space defined between the front substrate and the rear substrate combined together and partitioning the discharge space; and a fluorescent layer covering a side surface of the partition wall and the second dielectric layer; wherein the second dielectric layer has a light absorbing function, and the partition wall has a light transmitting function. The plasma display panel ensures higher brightness and higher contrast.

摘要: A driving method of the present invention is adapted to a plasma display panel which includes first and second electrodes formed on a substrate, third electrodes formed in a direction intersecting the first and second electrodes, and a dielectric layer covering the first and second electrodes. The driving method includes the steps of generating an address discharge between the first and the third electrode to select a predetermined cell and sustain discharges between the first and the second electrode to produce light for display, and controlling the plasma display panel such that the discharge intensity of a sustain discharge in which the second electrode serves as the anode is smaller than the discharge intensity of a sustain discharge in which the first electrode serves as the anode.

摘要: A plasma display panel and a method of driving the same are provided in which circuit elements necessary for controlling potentials of scan electrodes can be reduced without using a complicated multilayered wiring. In the plasma display panel, k (k≧2) data electrodes, each of which is continuous from one end of a column to the other end, are arranged for each column of a matrix display. All scan electrodes in a display screen are classified into k groups, and one of k groups is assigned to k data electrodes in each column. Each data electrode is crossed with or opposed to scan electrodes belonging to the group that is assigned to the data electrode without overlapping a partition in a plan view and is crossed with or opposed to other scan electrodes with overlapping the partition.

摘要: An AC type plasma display panel includes a front substrate and a rear substrate defining a discharge space therebetween, electrodes formed on the inner surface of the front substrate, a dielectric layer covering the electrodes, and a protective film covering the dielectric layer. The difference in the index of refraction between the dielectric layer and the protective film is not greater than 0.20. According to the present invention, lack of uniformity due to interference is lessened by taking the difference in the index of refraction between a dielectric layer and a protective film into consideration.
