摘要： An object of the present invention is to provide a method of producing a multilayer coating film having excellent smoothness and high distinctness of image. The method of forming a multilayer coating film according to the present invention includes the steps of: successively applying an aqueous intermediate coating composition, an aqueous base coating composition, and a clear coating composition to a substrate; and simultaneously heat-curing the resulting intermediate, base, and clear coating layers, the aqueous intermediate coating composition (X) comprising: a base resin (A); a curing agent (B); and a diester compound (C), the curing agent (B) being a polyisocyanate compound (B1) and/or a polycarbodiimide compound (B2); and the diester compound (C) being represented by formula (1): (wherein R1 and R2 are each independently a hydrocarbon group having 4 to 18 carbon atoms, R3 is an alkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, m is an integer of 3 to 25, and m oxyalkylene units (R3—O) may be the same or different).

The present invention provides an aqueous coating composition comprising a polyester resin containing a predetermined or greater amount of long chain, straight-chain dicarboxylic acid and/or straight-chain diols having a predetermined or greater carbon number and having hydroxy groups and acid values within predetermined ranges; a urethane-associated thickener having a hydrophobic group and/or a polyacrylic acid-based thickener having a hydrophobic group; a curing agent; and a hydrophobic solvent, wherein the contents of the thickener and the hydrophobic solvent are within a specific range based on the gross amount of the polyester resin and the curing agent. The present invention also provides a method for forming a multilayer coating film using the aqueous coating composition.

摘要： This invention offers a method for forming multilayer coating film by successively applying onto a coating object a water-based first coloring paint, water-based second coloring paint and clear paint, and simultaneously baking the resultant first coloring coating film, second coloring coating film and clear coating film, in which the water-based first coloring paint (A) comprises polyester resin and curing agent, the polyester resin containing benzene ring and cyclohexane ring in its molecules, their combined content in the polyester resin being within a range of 1.0-2.2 mols/kg (solid resin content); and that the curing agent is at least one compound selected from the group consisting of isocyanate group-containing compound, oxazoline group-containing compound, carbodiimide group-containing compound, hydrazide group-containing compound and semicarbazide group-containing compound. According to this method, multilayer coating film excelling in smoothness, distinctness of image, chipping resistance and water resistance can be formed by 3-coat-1-bake system.

C., to form a dispersed mixture, the dispersed mixture optionally containing a solvent and a pigment; optionally eliminating at least a portion of the solvent under reduced pressure; adding water to the dispersed mixture; reducing the pressure and lowering the temperature of the dispersed mixture to a temperature equal to or less than the softening point of the dispersed mixture; and bringing the dispersed mixture into a powder state or a granule state by dispersion force of the dispersing and/or mixing machine.

The present invention provides a method of forming a multilayer coating film by successively applying an aqueous intermediate coating composition, an aqueous base coating composition and a clear coating composition to a substrate; and simultaneously heat-curing the resulting intermediate coating, base coating, and clear coating, wherein the aqueous intermediate coating composition comprises as a resin component a hydroxy- and carboxy-containing polyester resin (A) having a hydroxy value in the range of 60 to 200 mgKOH/g, an acid value in the range of 10 to 60 mgKOH/g, and a number average molecular weight in the range of 700 to 5,000; a melamine resin (B) having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 500 to 4,000; and a polycarbodiimide compound (C).

摘要： The present invention provides an aqueous intermediate coating composition comprising: (A) a resin containing hydroxyl and carboxyl groups with a hydroxyl value of 100 to 200 mg KOH/g and an acid value of 20 to 50 mg KOH/g; (B) at least one curing agent selected from the group consisting of melamine resins and blocked polyisocyanate compounds; and (C) flat pigment particles; the molecular weight distribution of a curable resin component comprising component (A) and component (B) including from 30 to 50% by weight of a component with a molecular weight of less than 1,000, and 10% by weight or less of a component with a molecular weight exceeding 100,000; the proportion of component (C) being from 2 to 15 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the resin component; and when the intermediate coating composition is applied to an undercoating film, pre-dried at 100° C. for 30 minutes and then heat-cured at 145° C. for 30 minutes, the film thickness shrinkage percentage of the cured coating film being 20% or less based on the film thickness of the coating film after pre-drying. The invention also provides a method for forming a multilayer coating film using the aqueous intermediate coating composition.
