Abstract:
A sulfur-curable rubber composition for incorporation into tires comprises, based on 100 parts by weight of elastomer (phr): (A) at least three diene elastomers each being a different rubber material, a first elastomer being characterized by a high molecular weight in a range of from about 300,000 to about 500,000 and a second elastomer being characterized by a molecular weight in the range of from about 250,000 to 350,000; the at least three elastomers each comprising between 25 and 40 phr; and (B) a reinforcement network comprising a balance of carbon black to silica in about a 3:1 to about 4:1 ratio.
Abstract:
A method for making a compartmentalized sealant strip and barrier assembly 10 has the steps of co-extruding a barrier strip 9 of non-sealant elastomeric material with a plurality of projecting linear extending walls 9c and a sealant strip 11 wherein the sealant strip 11 is formed on one side of the barrier strip 9 filling the space between the plurality of projecting walls 9c to form a plurality of linearly extending rows of sealant 11 across the transverse width of the co-extrusion to form the compartmentalized sealant strip and barrier assembly 10. The step of co-extruding may further include the step of: forming the projecting walls 9c on an inclined angle relative to a plane perpendicular to the width of the assembly 10. The step of co-extruding further has the step of forming the barrier strip 9 with lateral edges 9a and 9c that extend beyond the lateral outermost sealant strips 11 on each side of the assembly 10, the lateral edges 9a, 9b being bonding surfaces to seal the sealant strip and barrier assembly 10 into an uncured rubber layer when assembled into an unvulcanized tire 2.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a phased rubber composition and tire tread thereof intended for heavy duty service such as for example a truck tire. The phased rubber composition is comprised of the product of blending a first rubber phase comprised of cis 1,4-polybutadiene rubber and reinforcing filler comprised of rubber reinforcing carbon black and a second rubber phase comprised of natural cis 1,4-polyisoprene rubber and reinforcing filler comprised of precipitated silica.
Abstract:
The invention relates to pneumatic tires having treads of a cap/base configuration where the outer tread cap rubber layer contains lugs with intervening grooves which extend to the running surface of the tread cap and wherein at least one of said grooves is contained in a rubber block within the tread. For this invention, the tread groove-containing rubber block joins the tire carcass and extends radially outward through the tread base rubber layer and into the outer tread cap rubber layer.
Abstract:
A rubber composition suited for forming a truck tire tread includes 100 phr of elastomers, including a natural rubber and a styrene-butadiene rubber. A ratio by weight of natural rubber to styrene-butadiene rubber is at least 50:50. The composition further includes at least 45 phr of reinforcing fillers, including carbon black and a high surface area silica. The high surface area silica has a CTAB surface area of at least 220 m2/g. A ratio of the carbon black to the high surface area silica is at least 4:1. The composition further includes one or more processing aids and a sulfur-containing cure package.

Abstract:
Pneumatic rubber tire intended for heavy duty service having a tread containing a combination of functionalized cis 1,4-polybutadiene rubber and reinforcing filler containing precipitated silica.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a pneumatic truck tire, particularly a bus tire, with a tread of a cap/base configuration comprised of a circumferential outer tread cap rubber layer and an underlying tread base rubber layer. The outer tread cap rubber layer is configured with lugs, particularly circumferential ribs with circumferential grooves between the ribs. A tread groove-containing rubber block tire component which joins the tread base rubber layer and extends radially outward into the outer tread cap rubber layer.
