    摘要: An electro-surgical device for performing tissue resection and cauterization includes an elongated body, a pair of arms extending from a distal end of the elongated body, and an electrode in communication with the pair of arms. The elongated body is adapted to be coupled to a source of energy at a proximal end. The electrode has a first region coated with an insulative coating and a second region for focusing energy emission. The coating can be a diamond-like carbon coating or other coating exhibiting resistance to cracking at high temperatures and high voltages. The coating can be deposited on a base section of a loop electrode while the end sections remain free of the coating. Alternatively, the coating can be unevenly deposited on the electrode. In other embodiments, the electrode can comprise a rollerball and the insulative coating can be deposited on selected or random portions of the rollerball. The insulative coating prevents energy loss to fluid and tissue during the operation, thus allowing resection and cauterization to be efficiently performed.

    摘要: A surgical clip has a base portion and two generally parallel, spaced arms extending from the base portion and defining an opening therebetween. The arms terminate distally in fingers which are of reduced width and thickness relative to the arms and which are adapted to be bent towards and past each other. A transition section from each arm to the finger provides curved structures which extending away from each other and providing a wider mouth for the opening between the arms. The arms also have a proximal section with an undercut which helps in flexure of the arms. The base is an extended structure having a rounded proximal end with outwardly extending shoulders which are arranged to be engaged by the curved structures of the mouth of another clip.

    摘要: A surgical clip includes a U-shaped configuration with first and second arms, and a bridge portion therebetween. The first arm is provided with a tip preferably having a catch, and the second arm extends into a deformable retainer having a tissue-piercing end and preferably also a hook. During application, tissue is clamped, and the clip is forced over the clamped tissue and the retainer of the second arm is bent and may be pierced through the tissue. The retainer is toward and around or adjacent the tip of the first arm preferably until the hook is engaged about the catch to secure the clip to the tissue and prevent the clip and tissue from separating. The clip is provided with structure that facilitates the stacking of a plurality of clips in a clip chamber of a clip applier.

    摘要: A vacuum powered pump includes a spring biased piston or diaphragm in a vacuum chamber coupled to a source of vacuum. When vacuum is applied to the vacuum chamber, the piston or diaphragm is moved in a first direction against the spring. A delayed action valve is coupled to the vacuum chamber to allow ambient air to enter the chamber only after the piston or diaphragm has been moved a substantial distance in the first direction. When the delayed action valve opens, air enters the vacuum chamber and the force of the entering air together with the bias of the spring propels the piston or diaphragm in a second direction opposite the first direction. The delayed action valve automatically closes and the process repeats so long as a vacuum source is coupled to the vacuum chamber. The reciprocal movement of the piston or diaphragm effects a pulsatile pumping of fluid through a fluid chamber having at least one check valve.

    摘要: A process for providing an endoscopic scissors blade with the necessary roughness to receive a ceramic coating, without first requiring that the blade surfaces be roughened by gritblasting, includes obtaining an investment mold with an interior textured surface. The investment mold is textured by first texturing an injection mold cavity by etching, gritblasting, or electric-discharge machining the inside surface of the injection mold cavity to produce a desired roughness. A blade pattern (wax) is then formed in the injection mold with a resulting textured surface, and using the textured blade pattern, the investment mold with the textured interior cavity is generated. When metal is injected into the investment mold using a lost wax process, the resulting cast blades will have the necessary roughness for permitting a ceramic to be bonded thereto without the need for any additional roughening. Thus, the so-formed blades are coated with a ceramic material. Such scissors blades are used in an endoscopic surgical scissors instrument and are especially useful as the scissor blades of a bipolar cautery endoscopic scissors instrument.

    摘要: A flexible endoscopic clip applier includes a flexible coil, a manual actuator coupled to one end and a jaw assembly coupled to the other. A store of clips is arranged adjacent to the jaw assembly and a clip pusher adjacent to the store of clips. The actuator includes a lever for opening and closing the jaws, a knob for rotating the jaw assembly, and a crank for dispensing clips. The knob and lever are coupled to a single control member which extends through the coil to a joiner where it is joined to a pair of pull wires coupled to the jaws. The crank is coupled to a second control member which is threaded along a portion. The threaded portion engages a threaded member near the pusher such that rotation of the second control member by the crank causes the pusher to be moved distally.
