A pixel substrate has a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of reference signal lines which are arranged parallel with each other. A counter substrate includes a plurality of signal lines. Moreover, the pixel substrate has a connecting line for connecting the plurality of the reference signal lines to each other. The connecting line is provided in each of two regions outside of two sides among the peripheral sides of a region where a plurality of pixel electrodes are formed, the two sides being perpendicular to the reference signal lines. In this structure, a reference signal is input from both ends of the reference signal line. It is therefore possible to provide a liquid crystal display device which reduces the occurrence of a short circuit between the lines on the substrate and decreases the signal delay due to the load capacitance.

A liquid crystal display device is provided with a switching element in neighborhoods of crossing points of a gate wiring and a data wiring. An interlayer insulating film is provided on the switching element. A pixel electrode connected with the switching element is provided on the interlayer insulating film. Moreover, a spacer for keeping a thickness of a liquid crystal layer constant is disposed in the liquid crystal layer and in a sealing member for sealing the liquid crystal layer. Materials of the interlayer insulating film and spacers are optimized. This configuration prevents degradation of a defective ratio and reliability due to the spacer disposed in the liquid crystal layer sinking into the interlayer insulating film.

Flexible wiring boards on which a drive IC is mounted are connected to the electrode terminals, and circuit wiring is connected to the flexible wiring boards. On both sides of the peripheral portion of the panel, a first junction terminal and a second junction terminal are provided. By a first circuit wiring, the second junction terminal corresponding to one flexible wiring board is connected to the first junction terminal corresponding to another flexible wiring board adjacent to the flexible wiring board. An input terminal, output terminals, and a third junction terminal that lead to the drive IC are provided at places corresponding to the various terminals on one surface of the flexible wiring boards. By the second circuit wiring, the input terminal is connected to the third junction terminal. The corresponding terminals are connected to each other by overlapping the flexible wiring boards on the peripheral portion of the panel.

A plurality of points corresponding to the measuring object such as a graphic are entered as specific points. A calculating section calculates lengths of a straight line and a curve, an angle between two straight lines, or regional area of a region based on coordinate data of the respective specified points. The calculated results are shown on the main display. With the arrangement, the respective measurings of the length, angle, regional area, and other measuring object are carried out with ease and high accuracy. Moreover, a variety of processings such as unit conversion and scale factor conversion can be carried out only by entering respective specific data.
