An apparatus for the continuous production of composite laminate bodies including panels and cylindrical pipes comprises a frame, a laminating mold, a sheet supply roller, a movable pressure roller, at least two preheating rollers and a heating device, wherein the pressure roller, preheating roller and heating device are mounted on the frame, the laminating mold is movable and is adjacent to the frame to form a laminating gap, and the heating device is provided near the laminating gap, so that the sheet travels from the sheet supply roller to the preheating rollers and then to the laminating gap where the sealing material on the sheet surface is heat melted just before being pressed against the laminating mold. By successive lamination of layers of sheet material over the last sheet of material or last section of film by selectively melting the sealing coating on the contact surface of the sheet of material with the heating device just prior to pressing the sheet of material against the laminating mold, an improved composite body having the desired level of thickness with improved load bearing capacity is obtained with increased time efficiency and substantial reductions in potential damages to the product. A process for producing composite bodies from layers of laminated sheets is also disclosed.

In the production of moldings from thermotropic, liquid-crystalline plastics, the chains of the LC polymer molecules are oriented in at least two preferred directions independent of one another. For this purpose, the polymer melt stream which emerges from an extruder is divided into two part streams which are fed via melt lines to an adapter. A distributing element which is caused to rotate by a drive unit is located in the adapter. The adapter is upstream of a slot die and is connected to the latter. One part stream forms a polymer matrix while the other part stream incorporates in, or is superimposed on, this polymer matrix individual polymer strands at different cross-sectional levels by the rotating distributing element. These polymer strands reinforce the polymer matrix. These polymer strands form multiple-pitch helices. The two part streams combined in the adapter enter the slot die and are shaped in the latter to give a multilayer melt film which is extruded through the slot die onto a cooling roller.

The process of the present invention is for the surface treatment on both sides of a substrate by means of electric corona discharge, while simultaneously treating both surfaces of the substrate with a carrier gas/aerosol mixture introduced into the corona discharge zone. The arrangement for carrying out this process comprises a corona discharge device, consisting of a generator, high voltage electrodes, to which alternating current is applied by the generator, as well as grounded counter electrodes, a device for the atomization of liquid into a suspendable aerosol, which is connected via a transport line for the aerosol to the corona discharge device, and a blower, which is connected to the atomizer device and conveys the carrier gas/aerosol mixture to the corona discharge device. The electrodes and counter electrodes together form a gap for the substrate to be treated.
