    摘要: A shear stress sensor for measuring fluid wall shear stress on a test surface is provided. The wall shear stress sensor is comprised of an active sensing surface and a sensor body. An elastic mechanism mounted between the active sensing surface and the sensor body allows movement between the active sensing surface and the sensor body. A driving mechanism forces the shear stress sensor to oscillate. A measuring mechanism measures displacement of the active sensing surface relative to the sensor body. The sensor may be operated under periodic excitation where changes in the nature of the fluid properties or the fluid flow over the sensor measurably changes the amplitude or phase of the motion of the active sensing surface, or changes the force and power required from a control system in order to maintain constant motion. The device may be operated under non-periodic excitation where changes in the nature of the fluid properties or the fluid flow over the sensor change the transient motion of the active sensor surface or change the force and power required from a control system to maintain a specified transient motion of the active sensor surface.

    摘要: A supported silver catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene with molecular oxygen to ethylene oxide is made by depositing silver on a support capable of selectively adsorbing alkali metals, activating the silver under conditions chosen to provide the optimum selectivity of ethylene oxide and thereafter depositing an amount of an alkali metal sufficient to increase selectivity of the silver catalyst above its alkali-free state. The catalyst most preferably employs a ceramic support having a surface area of 0.3-0.8 m.sup.2 /gm. The amount of alkali metal on the finished catalyst is most preferably 50-300 ppm by weight. The catalyst may also include additional promoters, such as the alkaline earth metals, preferably barium.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing a tamper-indicating closure having a plurality of resilient flexible projections bent upwardly and radially inwardly at a predetermined radius of curvature. The first step in the method includes providing a mold assembly comprising a female mold portion for forming the outer surface of the closure and a male mold portion for forming the closure's inner surface and its plurality of projections. The male and female mold portions are arranged for relative movement toward and away from each other between a mold open position and a mold closed position. When in the mold closed position, the male and female mold portions define a mold cavity in which the tamper-indicating closure is molded. The next steps in the method are to move the male and female mold portions into the mold closed position; to provide a mold material into the mold cavity; and, to maintained the mold portions in the mold closed position for a predetermined time period until the tamper-indicating closure is formed with its projections disposed at their predetermined radius of curvature. Next, the male mold portion is removed from the molded closure, whereby the projections temporarily bend from their predetermined radius of curvature to a second position. The closure includes a plurality of strain relief recesses corresponding to the number of projections, each strain relief recess being located radially outwardly from each projection. Each recess, in combination with the predetermined radius of curvature, acting to limit the extent of deformation of the corresponding projection during removal of the male mold portion so the projection can elastically return to substantially its “as molded” configuration.

A tool is provided having a reciprocable firing pin for detonating a power charge in a powered fastener supported within the tool. An exhaust gas chamber is provided in the tool for reducing noise. A powered fastener is provided having a receptacle end in which a nitrocellulose composition charge is mounted. The receptacle end has a cylindrical portion and a conical portion. The cooperation of the target work surface, the pointed end of the fastener, the fastener support portion of the tool, the firing pin and the shape of the receptacle end of the fastener serve to detonate the power charge and drive the fastener into the work surface.

    摘要: A self-tapping screw for use on concrete and masonry structures is disclosed. The screw has a helically threaded shank of uniform diameter. The crest diameter of the helical thread on the shank has a taper which increases gradually from the tip or entering end of the shank for a predetermined distance along the shank and then has a uniform diameter over the remaining portion of the helical thread. The helical threads have a spacing of 5-8 threads per inch for screw sizes in the range of 1/2 to 3/16 inch. Thread cutting notches are formed in the threads over at least the tapered portion thereof. The screw is hardened to a Rockwell "C" hardness of 48 or greater.
