A diagnostic ultrasound system comprises a probe for converting an electrical driving signal into a corresponding transmission ultrasound wave and converting an echoed ultrasound wave into a corresponding electrical echo signal. The system still comprises a unit for transmitting the transmission ultrasonic wave to a subject by providing the probe the electrical driving signal substantially consisting of a fundamental component of a given driving frequency. The non-fundamental component is typically a second harmonic. A non-fundamental component of the driving frequency is intentionally lowered in power relative to the fundamental component by a suppressing element in the transmitting unit. The system comprises a unit for receiving the echo signal from the probe and processing the echo signal into a display image data reflecting both the fundamental and non-fundamental components and a unit for displaying the display image data.

The signal conductive members are located close enough to the earth conductive member to sufficiently reduce a mutual inductance generated between said signal conductive members. Ultrasounds emitted from a prescribed number of transducers are focused at a hypothetical point sound source. Wave-fronts reflect at a plurality of observing points. Ultrasounds reflected at the observing points are received through a prescribed number of transducers generating a plurality of channels of receiving signals, which are focused by performing phase compensation and summation so that the observing point becomes a reception focusing point. The receiving signals are focused to correct transmitting delays due to propagation distances between the transmitting focusing point and the observing points.

An ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus of the present invention includes a three-dimensional ultrasonic scanning unit for carrying out a three-dimensional ultrasonic scanning by a plurality of ultrasonic transducers arranged two-dimensionally and for forming detection signals corresponding to reflection waves reflected from a subject that received waves applied by the transducers, a first delay add processing unit for dividing detection signal from all the transducers into a predetermined plurality of partial signal groups and for carrying out delay add processing to each of the divided partial signal groups to form a first delay adding signal, a second delay add processing unit for carrying out a delay add processing to the first delay adding signal output from the first delay add processing unit to form a second delay adding signal, and an image processing unit for reconstructing a three-dimensional image according to the second delay adding signal output from the second delay add processing unit. Based on this arrangement, it is possible to achieve a parallel simultaneous reception processing of a three-dimensional scanning with a small number of delay circuits. This facilitates a real-time display of the three-dimensional ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus.

In an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus in which ultrasonic echo beams is focused three-dimensionally, a probe employs plural transducers arranged in two directions, lateral and azimuth directions. The transducers arranged in each azimuth direction are connected to a transmitting-receiving channel in a transmitting-receiving portion via a switch circuit. The switch circuit operates on the control of a switching controller and can connect a transducer selected by the controller in the azimuth direction to the transmitting-receiving channel. Output signals from the transmitting-receiving portion are supplied to a signal processing portion, in which beam forming for three-dimension echo beams is carried out by using a beam former. Thus, transducers arranged on each line in the lateral direction can be driven simultaneously, resulting in a more compact circuit and a reduced number of transmitting and receiving for better real-time processing. Further, the beam former is devided into two stage, one for the lateral direction and the other for the azimuth direction. This combination of two beam formers lead to adjustable focuses in the both direction in addition to a reduced memory capacity in the signal processing.
