Abstract:
The invention relates to determining the image content of an incoming bitstream such that various image improvement effects may be accomplished. The invention provides for determining a realness value of an image formed of a plurality of pixels each having associated pixel data by evaluating a spatial distribution of luminance values of the image. Realness values are first determined for subregions of an image frame through an analysis of a luminance histogram generated for each subregion. Subsequently, the subregion realness values are analyzed to generate a total realness value for the image frame and to classify the image content of the image frame.
Abstract:
The invention provides for automatically identifying the location of a displayed video window based upon a characterization of selected portions of the image for realness based upon a distribution of luminance values for the selected portions. The image is then searched mathematically for a large rectangle of realness, and if found, a similar operation is performed in a smaller rectangle around each of the edges of the large rectangle, in turn, zooming in to a resolution of one pixel, thus identifying the position of the edge. This process can be repeated as often as necessary in order to maintain a fix on the edges of the video window.

Abstract:
An over-sampled sequence detector operates on sampled data and tracks the detection reliability of the sampled data. The detector separately analyzes sample sequences for different sampling phases and then picks a sample sequence that allows for the most reliable detection. For the different sampling phases, the detector inspects some amount of look-behind and look-ahead information in order to improve upon simple symbol-by-symbol detection. The over-sampled information is used to further improve detection performance.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for determining motion vectors to be used for interpolation of intermediary frames in a digital video sequence are disclosed. A first image frame including several image patches is received. A second image frame including one or more image patches corresponding to the image patches in the first image frame is received. For each image patch that occurs in both frames, the following operations occur: forward and backward motion vectors are determined for the image patch in the first image frame, forward and backward motion vectors are determined for the image patch in the second image frame, one motion vector from the first image frame and one motion vector from the second frame are selected and the selected motion vectors are used to establish an intermediary position of the image patch in an interpolated frame between the frames.
Abstract:
Managing power in a display controller having an on-board power supply coupled to a host device having an off-board power supply by way of a connector is described. If the on-board power supply is active, then power is supplied to the display controller by the off-board power supply by way of the connector and a low frequency clock arranged to provide a low frequency clock signal is turned on. Alternatively, when it is determined that the on-board power supply is active, then power is supplied to the display controller by the on-board power supply only, the low frequency clock is turned off and a high frequency clock arranged to provide a high frequency clock signal is turned on.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for reducing the power consumption of a microprocessor. One or more signal transitions in an instruction set of a microprocessor are profiled. A probability of occurrence is assigned to each instruction in the instruction set. A binary operation code is assigned to each instruction, based on the probability of occurrence for the instruction. The instructions having the highest probability of occurrence are assigned operation codes that require fewer signal transitions. As a result, the power consumption of the microprocessor is reduced.

Abstract:
System and method for increasing the blue component of white and near white pixels while avoiding hard transitions and without affecting flesh-tone colors. Pixels that are bright enough and fall within a detection area in the UV-plane have their blue components increased and their red components decreased. The detection area is limited to avoid application of blue stretch to flesh-tone colors. A transition boundary is provided around the detection area for gradually decreasing the amount of blue stretch as pixels move away from the boundary of the detection area, thereby avoiding hard transitions between areas that are blue stretched and areas that are not blue stretched.
